The cost of textbooks is not included in the above total. Students will buy their own textbooks at the university bookstore, and the total cost depends on the level in which the student is placed. The estimate of book cost is $300 to $350 per eight-week term.

The airport transportation fee quoted above is a group rate and non-refundable. Students will be charged the regular pickup fee if they come separately.

Students can buy health insurance in their home countries as long as it meets the minimum coverage of $100,000.00 per illness/accident. If students buy their health insurance after they arrive in Murray, the cost is estimated at $48 per month, depending on which plan they choose.

The housing rate quoted above is the second lowest. The lowest rate is $19.44/night for Springer Hall & Old Richmond Hall (overflow facility). The two higher rates are $26.73/night for Clark Hall, JH Richmond Hall and HC Franklin and $23.33/night for Elizabeth Hall and Hester Hall, respectively. If students arrive before the University dorms are officially open on Sunday January 15, 2017, they will need to pay for interim housing, which is currently $17 per night.

The MSU Housing Office requires a deposit of $150 to reserve students’ rooms. To avoid the difficulties of collecting and refunding these fees, the ESL Program will cover the housing deposit cost on behalf of our partner university students. If for any reason, a student forfeits the ability for the deposit to be refunded at the end of his/her stay (fails to notify the Housing Office or check out by the deadline OR causes any damage to the room or other property), that student will be immediately responsible for paying the $150 fee and will also be responsible to pay any additional charges (damages/lost keys, etc.) to his/her MSU account. The ESL Program asks for the cooperation of our partner universities to collect any fees necessary.

The Murray State ESL Program is authorized by ETS to administer the Institutional TESOL for placement and exit purposes. If the group comes at the beginning of the term, they will have the option of taking the Institutional TOEFL as part of the placement test, and the cost is $30 per student. If the group chooses not to take the TOEFL, the Michigan Test will be used for placement purposes, and it does not cost anything to the students.
