Where is your community and how would you describe it?
Please give us a brief description of your community. It doesn’t need to contain lots of facts and figures, and don’t worry if you don’t know it all, but we would appreciate information on the following:
Name of community | location | rural/urban/market town | estimated population | whether you have good local service provision (e.g. shops, libraries, youth facilities) | transport links | employment | whether energy costs are a big issue locally
For example:
- Polburyis an isolated rural community in Surrey, in an AONB. The only local employment is on farms, and there is a lot of commuting by road to Guildford and London. The population is about 300, we have a primary school and shop but no other local services. Most of the housing is pre-WWII and about half the village doesn’t have mains gas, so heating costs are high. No train line any more, bus services are poor.No youth facilities at all.
- New Fields is an inner-city ward of Newcastle with a population of about 2,500. There are high levels of local unemployment and educational achievement is lower than the national average. We have three primary schools and a secondary school. There is a decent range of local shops and excellent local transport, but poor youth facilities. The area has several areas of brownfield land that have not been re-developed from the closure of previous local industry. There’s a problem with petty vandalism, litter and graffiti.
