Importance

George Washington was important for many reasons:

He was our first president.

He was in charge of the whole Continental Army during the American Revolution.

When he was president, he always careful was about what he did because he knew others would follow him.

He never wanted to be king and made sure we never got one.

George Washington lived up to the age of 67 years old. He died on December 15th 1799 at Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Things He Did

1. Organized, trained and led soldiers during the American Revolution which we won.

3. He was elected the first president.

4. He shows the president has power by using the veto and stopping the Whiskey Rebellion.

Early Life

He was taught by his dad and brother. His mother was always a strong influence in his life. He liked math which later helps him become a surveyor, someone who measures the land. He grew up to be very tall and strong. At age 17, he was made surveyor of Culpeper County Virginia. In 1751 he took his only trip out of the country to Barbados an island in the Caribbean to help his brother get better from tuberculosis. There, Washington got small pox which left him with many scars. In 1752, his brother died.

Single/Married Life

Washington was very shy with women. However he loved dancing with them. He fell very much in love with a Virginia woman who was already engaged. He got over the disappointment and met Martha Dandridge Custis. Martha was the richest widow in Virginia with two kids. They got married on January 6th, 1759. Washington helped her raise her two grandkids. They had a good and long marriage.
