Jonah did not answer God's call quickly; he wasn't interested in the mission God had for him. Sometimes the attraction of various career opportunities keeps us from being interested in hearing and responding to God's call. Is the Lord calling you to priesthood or to religious life? What could be more satisfying or fulfilling than taking on a mission from God? Call or write Father Norm Carroll, Diocesan Director of Priestly and Religious Vocations (302-573-3113 or ). MARRIAGE MOMENTS A common complaint among couples is, "You're not listening to me." When is listening hard for you? If you're busy or tired, ask for a better time. Is there a conversation you've been avoiding?

PARENTING POINTERS

Talk with your child about the value of life, no matter how young or how old. Perhaps, donate baby items to a center.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading: Jonah 3:1-5, 10
Jonah set out for Nineveh as God asked and told the people that their city would be destroyed in forty days. The people believed him and repented from their evil ways. God did not destroy their city, showing his mercyfor those who see the evil of their ways and correct it.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
Paul advises the Corinthians that their world is changing, so they should not take their daily trials too seriously. We should remember that the problems of everyday living will not last forever, but the eternal life God promises us will.

Gospel: Mark 1:14-20
Jesus observes Simon and Andrew where they are fishing and tells them to come with him and become “fishers of men.” They abandon their nets without hesitation to follow him. Next he calls James and his brother John, who also leave what they are doing and follow him without question.©1999 Bon Venture Services, Inc.

HIS WORD TODAYby Rev. William J. Reilly

“After John had been arrested Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: ‘This is the time of fulfillment, the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel.’ ...Jesus said to them; ‘Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.’”

We meet Jesus as He begins His public ministry as reported by Mark. In summary, from the gospel writer, tells us what will follow. The message of Jesus is quite clear: Repent and Believe.

In a few weeks we will hear those same words, as the blessed ashes are traced upon on our foreheads, the external sign, reflects the disposition of our hearts. I ask myself, if I not only hear the words, but listen to them.

As Jesus invited the two sets of brothers to join Him in His ministry, so He calls us today, because this is the time of fulfillment as we are Missionary Disciples. If I truly believe the gospel is the Good News of Jesus, I walk with Him and bring His message to others.
