Create a piece of artwork resembling ancient Egyptian tomb paintings. Four point rubric: 1) figures are drawn in profile in the style of the ancient Egyptians; 2) artwork shows at least fifteen details about life in ancient Egypt, 3) artwork is historically realistic, 4) final draft form, neat, colorful, uses dark ink.
Social Studies / ANALYSIS
Design a DOUBLE BUBBLE MAP about an ancient Egyptian city, comparing and contrasting what life was like in that city in ancient times, and what the same geographical area is like today. Four point rubric: 1) the ‘map’ references an ancient Egyptian city, 2) the ‘map’ has at least 3 common factors, and at least 3 differences on each side,
3) symbols or illustrations are added to make the ideas more visible, 4) final draft form, neat, readable, dark ink is used; bold colors are also acceptable.
Social Studies / COMPREHENSION
Illustrate the NileRiver and orally report on its importance to Egypt. Four point rubric: 1) explain the impact of the Nile River on the culture of Ancient Egypt, 2) give several examples of how the flooding of the Nile was helpful to Egyptians, and several of how it was harmful, 3) tell the name of the triangular mouth of the Nile River and the significance of its name, and 4) explain what the Aswan Dam is and why it is important to the Nile.
Science
SYNTHENSIS
Social pyramid: Write a journal entry as an ancient Egyptian pharaoh, priest, noble, scribe, government official, craftsperson, merchant, farmer, laborer, or slave. Four point rubric: 1) writing is historically realistic, 2) gives at least five details about daily life, 3) includes thoughts and feelings of the individual, 4) final draft form, neat, and uses proper English and good grammar.
Social Studies / STUDENT CHOICE
Design and create your own project, speech, or display item. Four point rubric: 1) original student creation, 2) relates to sixth grade standards and to Egypt, 3) demonstrates knowledge of topic, 4) includes the concept of change.

Obtain and complete an Egyptian Numeration packet from Mrs. Jones. Four point rubric: 1) complete the packet, 2) explain the symbols and system to the class, 3) compare and contrast this system to our decimal system, and 4) demonstrate one operation using this system.

APPLICATION
Choose an ancient Egyptian pharaoh, and create a sarcophagus for this person. Four point rubric: 1) sarcophagus is historically realistic in shape and design, 2) sarcophagus displays the pharaoh’s face, 3) shows at least ten pictorial details that portray specific information about the pharaoh’s reign (hieroglyphics are acceptable but don’t count as details, no other writing is permitted), and 4) final draft form, neat, bold colors, and dark ink are used.
Social Studies / COMPREHENSION
Biome and Climate of Egypt. Use a flow or multi-flow thinking map (to be explained in class) to describe cause and effect of Egypt’s climate (both droughts and floods) on its culture. Four point rubric: 1 ) tell which major climate zone is Egypt located, and of which biome, 2) explain how this climate affected the Ancient Egyptian culture 3) tell about annual precipitation of Egypt and explain whatkhamsin is and what climate factors are its cause, and 4) tell about Egypt’s soil and how this affected agriculture.
Science / APPLICATION
Scale Model Pyramid Construction. Four point rubric: 1) construct and decorate a smooth square pyramid (no food items may be used!), 2) give its scale as compared to a specific great pyramid, 3) explain and calculate surface area of your pyramid, and 4) explain and calculate volume of your pyramid. No pyramid allowed that is too large to fit on back counter.
