SOUTH PLAINFIELD PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MEETING MINUTES
November 10, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Darlene Cullen at 7 pm.
President Cullen announced that the meeting was being held in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act and as such, proper notice of the meeting was published in the official newspapers, The Observer, The Courier-News and The Home News Tribune.
In attendance were: President Darlene Cullen, Vice President Faustini and Treasurer Melissa Katsingris. Trustees: Gary Jones, Frank Lemos, Stephanie Wolak and Mayor’s Alternate Cheryl Nagel-Smiley. Excused: Bob Bengivenga and Superintendent’s Alternate Annemarie Stoeckel.
Also in attendance were: Linda Hansen, Eric Aronowitz, Carmela Sutor, and Libby Barsky.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Led by Vice President Faustini
MINUTES:
President Cullen called for a motion to approve the Public meeting minutes of
October 13, 2015.
Cheryl Nagel-Smiley made the motion, seconded by Stephanie Wolak. In Favor: Mr. Jones, Ms. Nagel-Smiley, Ms. Wolak, Ms. Katsingris, and President Cullen. Abstain: Mr. Lemos, Vice President Faustini.
PAYMENT OF VOUCHERS:
President Cullen called for a motion to approve the payment of vouchers, check #11432 through #11475, totaling $45,659.58 which were reviewed by various Board members this month.
Frank Lemos made the motion, seconded by Vice President Faustini. The motion passed unanimously.

TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE REPORT:

Linda stated that the committee met to discuss purchasing new firewall for computers and server in the library as the current one is not supported by the manufacturer. At the conclusion

of the meeting, the committee recommended a 3-year contract for the Cisco ASA5508 with firepower and Smartnet Support at a cost of $5,750.00.


OLD BUSINESS: President Cullen stated there is no old business at this time.


PUBLIC COMMENT:
President Cullen called for a motion to open the meeting up to the public.

Cheryl Nagel-Smiley made the motion, seconded by Stephanie Wolak. The motion passed the unanimously.

Libby Barsky asked when the Library would be opening. President Cullen responded that we do not have an exact date yet.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Structural Concepts Payment #15:
President Cullen called for a motion to approve payment to Structural in the amount of $134,604.60 which has been certified and reviewed by the Architect.
Frank Lemos made the motion, seconded by Melissa Katsingris. In Favor: Gary Jones, Frank Lemos, Cheryl Nagel-Smiley, Stephanie Wolak, Melissa Katsingris, Vice President Faustini and President Cullen.

2. Approval of Change Order #4 from Structural Concepts:
President Cullen called for a motion to approve the change order #4 from Structural Concepts in the amount of $5,549.50.

Cheryl Nagel-Smiley made the motion, seconded by Frank Lemos. In Favor: Gary Jones, Frank Lemos, Cheryl Nagel-Smiley, Stephanie Wolak, Melissa Katsingris, Vice President Faustini and President Cullen.

3. Approval to purchase new firewall:
President Cullen called for a motion to approve the purchasing of firewall with a 3-year subscription in the amount of $5,750.

Stephanie Wolak made the motion, seconded by Frank Lemos. In Favor: Gary Jones, Frank Lemos, Cheryl Nagel-Smiley, Stephanie Wolak, Melissa Katsingris, Vice President Faustini and President Cullen.


Linda informed the Board that there were two annual donations one from Umicore and the other was from a former resident who would like to remain anonymous.

Libby asked if the library was still accepting donations. President Cullen responded any sponsorship of the shelving and furniture.

President Cullen called for a motion to close the Public portion of the meeting.
Cheryl Nagel-Smiley made the motion, seconded by Vice President Faustini. The motion passed unanimously.
TRUSTEE REMARKS:


Cheryl Nagel-Smiley: The people I have come across have been waiting patiently for the opening. Happy Veteran’s Day to everyone tomorrow. I recognize my father who was a Veteran and served during WWII. He enlisted at the age of 39 and my first husband who was a Vietnam Veteran and is still suffering post-depression. To all the Veterans, thank you for keeping us safe.
Vice President Faustini: Thank you to all the Veteran’s. Our next meeting should be our December get together.
Stephanie Wolak: Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.
Melissa Katsingris: Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Veteran’s Day. I am looking forward to the opening and we will have a finance meeting before the next meeting.
Frank Lemos: Happy Thanksgiving and I want to remind everyone that tomorrow is Veteran’s Day.

Gary Jones: Happy Veteran’s Day. My dad fought in WWII in the South Pacific. Happy Thanksgiving.
Linda Hansen: Happy Veteran’s Day and Happy Thanksgiving.
President Cullen: Happy Holidays. Thank you to Linda and your staff. If you’re not in the Library or talk to Linda on a daily basis, I walk in there and the staff is in there working very hard listening to jack-hammering, dust flying, etc. Linda is on call 24/7 with this project and I wanted to thank her and her staff. Thank you to all of you on the Board for all of your committees and all of your hard work and meeting and moving everything along. Eric thank you for always fielding the phone calls about what is going on. We should all give Andy a big thank you as well because he is on top of it all and there is a lot going on constantly. Glenn has been doing a lot with coordinating the paving and working that out. There is a lot of people working on this project and Kudos to everybody and I thank you all for your continual support. Frank Lemos complimented President Cullen by stating that “you led us at a time that is a very difficult situation to lead; talking about building a building and there are a lot of problems that could arise from that and you handle that unbelievably and you do a really good job (everyone agrees and applauded).” President Cullen congratulated Joe Wolak who is going to be on council and hopefully supporting our library as Stephanie does. I am looking for to seeing everybody at our next meeting.

President Cullen called for a motion to adjourn the Library Board Meeting at 7:19 pm.
Vice President Faustini made the motion, seconded by Melissa Katsingris. The motion passed unanimously.
