I. Levels of Competition

There shall be three levels of competition

  1. Varsity
  2. Junior Varsity
  3. Freshmen
  1. Schedules
  1. A single round robin schedule shall be played for Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen squads with games played every Thursday starting in week #2. The team in the North and South that have a bye each week will play a crossover game on that date. (11/16/12)
  2. There will be a round of crossover games scheduled on the Tuesday prior to the start of the Conference season. (11/16/12)

**Note: beginning with the 2017 season there will be a VB Badger Challenge on the Thursday after the Conf. Tournament with the South schools hosting in 2017 and rotating with the North in subsequent years. The South schools would each host a North school in 2017 with #1 N @ #1 S, #2 N @ #2 S, #3 N @ #3 S, etc. The North schools would host in 2018. (2/10/16)

  1. Placing will be determined off the points in final conference standing from duals and tournament combined &in case of a tie will determine tiebreaker.

  1. There will also be two additional dates scheduled for FR & JV Multiples in weeks #4 and #6. (11/16/12)
  2. There will be a Badger North and a Badger South Varsity Conference Tournament on the Saturday following the final round of Conference games. There will be a Badger North and a Badger South FR & JV Conference Tournament on the Saturday prior to the Varsity Tournament. (11/16/12)
  3. The Badger North and Badger South will have separate divisional champions. The starting time for JV and Freshmen is 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity match at 7:00 p.m. or 20 minutes after the completion of the JV match, whichever is later.

Dual matches

  1. J.V. and Freshmen- one team each side of net for stretching, team warm ups, and serving. Split court by mutual agreement for setting, hitting and blocking. Diagonal division of floor.
  2. Rally scoring will be used for freshmen and JV matches. Teams will play three games to 25, with let serve. A 3rd game would be exhibition if one team wins the first two games.
  3. Do not warm up until both teams are done. Home team takes game court first 10 minutes and Frosh court 2nd 10 minute. Visitors are opposite.
  1. Contest Procedures - Dual Matches
  1. Match Format: Badger conference Varsity dual matches will use best 3 of 5 games format to determine a winner.
  2. Warm up: The warm-up time format will comply with WIAA tournament protocol.
  3. Contest Management
  1. Home team supplies volleyballs for warm ups.
  2. Home team supplies qualified line judges.
  3. Home team is responsible to call results in to the media.
  4. Each team is responsible for their own game stats-visiting coach should give home team coach newspaper stats before leaving.
  5. Introduction.
  6. If the National Anthem is played-it will be played 2 minutes before the start of the Varsity game. Teams should be on the court for the playing of the National Anthem.

Contest Procedures - JV / Freshman Triangulars and Quads (11/7/13)

  1. Match Format: Teams will play 3 games (first 2 games to 25 points and the 3rd game to 15 points. (11/7/13)
  2. Warm-up times will be 2 minutes of shared court time, 4 minutes on the court for the home team and 4 minutes on the court for the visiting team. (11/7/13)

  1. The Badger North and Badger South Conference Tournaments will be played at separate sites in the North & South on the Saturday following the last round of Conference duals.
  2. The Tournament will consist of a Double Elimination, seeded/bracketed tournament with best 2 out of 3 games.
  3. Tie-Breaking rules for seeding the Conference Tournament

i.) 2-way tie (Head-to-Head)

ii.) 3 or more-way tie

(1) set winning % from only conf. dual sets vs teams involved in the tie

(2) set winning % from all sets played in conference duals

(3) point differential (+/-) in all dual matches in conference (11/9/16)

  1. Each game will have 2 officials and line judges.
  2. Points for tournament order of finish will be: (6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0). (11/6/14)
  3. Hosts for the Conference Tournament will follow an alphabetical rotation. Schools have the option of opting out if they can’t host. If a school has 3 courts available, then the start time will be 9:00 am. If a school only has 2 courts available, then the start time will be 8:00 am. (11/7/13)

**Note: if two courts are used for the Conf. Tournament, there should be a 30 minute lunch break after the 4th round. If three courts are used, there should be a 30 minute lunch break after round three. (11/11/15)

  1. FR & JV Conference Tournament Format (11/16/12)
  2. The Badger North and Badger South JV Conference Tournaments will be played at separate sites in the North & South on the Saturday preceding the Varsity Conference Tournament.
  3. The same school will host both the Freshman & JV Tournaments on the same day.
  4. Play will take place on 2 courts.
  5. Teams will play the best 2 out of 3 games (3rd game to 15 points) (11/7/13)
  6. Pool Play: Pool 1- seeded teams 1, 4, 5, Pool 2 seeded teams 2, 3, 6, 7. The top 2 teams from each pool move on to playoff ( semi-finals - top seed from each pool plays second seed in each pool & finals) (11/7/13)
  7. For JV: on the Friday prior to tourney, schools must inform the host of their JV Conference dual record forseeding purposes. A coaches meeting will be held on day of tourney to finalize seeding. (11/7/13)
  8. In the FR Conf. Tournament, teams should be seeded based on the seeding for the JV Conf. Tournament. (11/11/15)
  9. Host school will hire 2 officials/court (eliminating the need to have line judges) and table workers. At least one table worker must be an adult. (11/7/13)
  1. Officials

A. Varsity officials for conference contests and the conference tournament are hired by the conference commissioner.

B.The two officials hired by the conference commissioner will officiate the J.V. and Varsity contests. Starting in 2012 one of these officials will do the JV game while the other will officiate the freshmen game.

C. The host school is responsible to hire one or two officials for the freshman match.

D. Host school hires and pays one official for each court for JV and Freshmen volleyball starting in the 2012 season.

VIII. All Conference

  1. Coaches will select a seven player first team and a seven player second team in each

division.

B. All Conference selection procedure. (See Appendix F)

C. Any nominee who is not on first or second team that receives a vote is on the

honorable mention list.

IX. Awards

A.Badger North and Badger South Champions will be determined by a combination of points earned for dual matches and the Conference Tournament. Teams will receive one point for each dual win and those points will be added to the Conference Tournament points earned to determine the Conference Champion. (11/16/12)

B.A trophy shall be awarded to the conference champion(s).

C. All-Conference first team receives a medal, certificate and a folder.

D. All-Conference second team receives a certificate and a folder.
