The Owl Times

September

Week of 9/19-9/23

Themes: Colors/shapes, Bus Safety, School

Letters: b and f

Reading: This week I will demonstrate how to read words at the top of the page and move across the words from left to right, demonstrating one-to-one match. When they come to the end of the line, they move down to the next line, sweeping back to the first word at the left side of the page. The students will also be thinking about their own reading identities by reflecting on themselves as readers. These include thinking about the kinds of books they enjoy reading, the locations they like to read in, and the people they like to read with. Students will use pictures to help them read the words and make meaning of a text.

We will be reviewing colors this week. We will read the popular story, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? with the predictable pattern focusing on colors. We will also read The Crayon Box that Talkedwith the simple message that when we all work together, the results are much more interesting and colorful.

I will continue to be testing the children throughout the week to get a baseline of readiness skills. This includes letters, sounds, words, numbers, counting, shapes, and colors.

Fundations: Letters b and f

The handwriting HW page comes home on Monday and it is not due until Thursday, Please don’t feel like you need to rush to hand it in on Tuesday. The students are introduced to the proper way to write the letters on Monday. However, we will be practicing them throughout the week. I want to make sure they are practicing it at home the correct way. They should be thinking the procedure in their head.

“Start at the sky line. Go down to the grass line. Trace up to the plane line and around to the grass line. B, bat, b(sound)”
