InvestigationalDrugService (IDS) Pharmacy
TheIDS pharmacists support inpatient and outpatient clinical research conducted byinvestigators from theJohns Hopkins Hospital, theJohns Hopkins University,the Johns Hopkins BloombergSchool of PublicHealth, and the Johns Hopkins ClinicalResearchNetwork.Theservices provided includeprotocol development consultation, protocol management, inventorymanagement, preparation ofinvestigational products, international study support, medication adherenceand compliance counseling, andregulatorycompliance auditing. TheJohns Hopkins HospitalIDS pharmacists annuallyprovidesupport for over 500Institutional ReviewBoard approved clinical trials. TheIDSaims to be at theforefront of developing clinical pharmacyserviceforour research patients and optimizingtheir carewithin the confines of theresearch protocol.

This novel specialtyresidencytrainingprogram inInvestigational Drug Serviceis an organized, directed postgraduate program to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to support clinical drug research. Theresidencyis designed to developexpert skills in avariety of settings that provide carefor patients enrolled in clinical trials. The experienceisdesigned todevelop clinical, analytical, teaching,and leadership skills. Upon completion, the resident will be prepared fora position asanIDS pharmacistor other opportunities within clinical research.
