to be held at Greenacres Curling Club, Near Glasgow, Scotland

Sunday 21, Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 August, 2011

(followed by a seminar about Energy Efficiency in Ice Rinks
Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 August, 2011 - see separate details)

FEES:Euro € 200.00 (£180) includes instruction, some course material, and a

NOTE:This course is for experienced Ice Technicians who have a minimum of 5 years experience as an Ice Technician.

The working language of the course is English, therefore a basic knowledge of English is necessary.

COURSE CONDUCTORS:

Hans Wuthrich: Head Ice Technician at World, World Junior, Canadian and European Curling Championships for more than 20 years. Certified Level 4 Canadian Curling Association Ice Technician. Licensed for 200 tons+ refrigeration. Power Engineer’s Certificate, Manitoba, Canada. Head Ice Technician for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

Leif Öhman: Head Ice Technician at World, World Junior and European Curling Championships for more than 15 years. Head Ice Technician at the1998,2002 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games and Technical Delegate for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.Educated as traffic and construction engineer. Executive Board Member of the World Curling Federation and the Swedish Curling Association.

COURSE CONTENT:

Specific definition of curling ice (what type of ice should we produce?)

The floors of a curling rink

Flooding and type of water (for best result) on ice

Maintaining the ice pad (scraping, honing the blade, etc.). Mostly practical work on ice

Pebbling, heads and sizes. Pebbling techniques (bring your own pebble equipment).Mostly practical work on ice

Stones and stone matching. Mostly practical work on ice

Study visit to the curling stone factory - Kays of Scotland at Mauchline.

Ice quality problem solving

Ice monitoring, graphing over night

Ice changes during a draw

Information regarding refrigeration systems and energyefficiencywill be discussed during the energy seminar. It will take place after this course on24 and 25 August, 2011.Please seeseparate details and registration forms.
