The WORD Is-IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM!
John 1:1-18
Intro- As I was praying about this week’s message I was led to the Book of John! I am led of God to bring before the Church the One Whom It’s All is About! I want to remind the Church that our gathering is Not to be Seen! Our gathering is Not to be Social! Our gathering is because GOD so Loved this world that He gave His only begotten Son that Whosever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life!
When we step into John’s Gospel we see that it is unlike all the other Gospels! There is No Genealogy, No Manger Scene, No Boyhood, No Baptism, No Temptation, No Mount of Transfiguration, No Gethsemane. There are only a few miracles mentioned. There are no scribes, no lepers, no publicans, and no demoniacs. It’s almost as if John sits down with a copy of the other gospels and deliberately leaves out the things already recorded.
John’s usage of vocabulary seems to be very simple! Someone said that he possessed a vocabulary of about 600 words. It’s a vocabulary of that of a 7 year old. But my what language comes forth from the pen and lips of John!
He begins this gospel speaking about the Word! In essence John tells us The Word IS- It’s ALL About Him! And so I want to preach this… on IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM!
I. IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM IN CREATION- (vs.1-5)
A. He Is The Constant Word in Creation- (vs.1a)=
“In the beginning WAS the Word”
According to this verse, Jesus has always existed! He didn’t come into existence at Bethlehem, but he’s been here throughout all the endless ages.
John 8:58-Jesus said unto them,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
“Was” in verse 1 = “always has been.”
Hebrews 13:8-Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Thank God He didn’t just Arrive on the scene-
But he’s Always been on the scene!
Hebrews 13:5b-“… for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee.
B. He Is The Communing Word in Creation-(vs.1b)=
“and the Word was WITH GOD”
The Bible says Jesus “was with God.”
Jesus was there- “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Jesus was there when God said:
Genesis 1:26-“…Let usmake man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Jesus was there as the Plan of Salvation was made before the foundation of the world!
Revelation 13:8-And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Jesus Christ wasn’t an after thought with God.
He wasn’t something conjured up when things got out of control.
Since before time began Jesus was with the Father in Heaven.)
(Eph. 1:4; Titus 1:2; 1 Pet. 1:19-20)
(B)He’s The Communing Word in Creation
C. He Is The Controversial Word in Creation-(vs.1c)=
“and the Word WASGod”
When Jesus came preaching repentance,(Mark 1:15) men didn’t believe Him! When he performed Miracles Still men did not believe him! But when he spoke the Word of God- Men Marveled and said What manner of man is This?When Jesus saidJohn 14:9…he that hath seen me hath seen the father…they said he was MAD.
He stopped being a blessing and became a controversy when He claimed to be God!
Men still Today argue with these Truths. They believe that Jesus was a good man! They believe Jesus was a godly man! But when it comes to agreeing the He is GOD men still wonder!
(C)He’s The Controversial Word in Creation
D. He Is The Creative Word in Creation- (vs.3)=
“All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made”
He is the Master Builder!
Hebrews 11:8-Abraham Looked for a city whose Builder & Maker is GOD!
Mark 6:3-“Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, …”
You talking about a Carpenter---you say What Did He Build?
He built A Bridge that reached All the way to Heaven…
With only 3 nails2 pieces of wood!
Jesus was the Creative Force behind the creation of this World!
Colossians 1:16 - 1716For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whetherthey be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
He stood on the edge of nothing and spoke all this into existence.
I’m glad I can say like the song writer, “I’m Glad I Know WHO Jesus Is”
Thank God, there will never be a day throughout eternity that doesn’t include Jesus!

II. IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM IN SALVATION- (vs.11-16)
A. Notice the MIRACLE of His Incarnation- (vs. 14)
John 1:14- And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
How could God become a man? The only thing we know is that Godchosea virgin named Mary and caused her to miraculously conceive and bring forth a baby.
That night that Jesus was born GOD came to earth. Laid asideHis Robe of Royalty- Put on a Robe of human Flesh and became a man! The Creator of the World was born in a Stable in Bethlehem!
Oh what a Savior!
And the Bible says- “Dwelt among Us”=It literally means that Jesus pitched His tent here among us!
Ill-Our President Obama recently made a trip to Egypt that was said to have cost Millions in preparation for his arrival!...But 2000 years ago when GOD came to this earth- No red carpet was rolled out! No real acknowledgment was made! He came to Jerusalem and was Crucified upon a Cross!
B. Notice The MISSION of His Visitation- (vs.11-12)
Vs.11= “HE CAME” He came to Save Sinners!
Luke 19:10For the Son of man is come to seek and to savethat which
was lost.
Are You Lost this… my friend this is the Reason He Came!
Luke 5:32-I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
1-Notice His Mission was REJECTED by SOME-
He came unto his own, and his own received him not!
In vs.10= His Own Creation didn’t recognize him!
In vs.11= His Own Countrymen didn’t recognize him!
For Years God had been preparing them for His coming! God raised up prophets that told of His Coming! Yet Still they did not receive him!
2-Notice His Mission was RECEIVED by MANY-
BUT AS MANY as received him…
I wonder have YOU received HIM?
HE CAME unto his own, and his own received him not, BUT!
Thank God the story doesn’t end there!
Thank God He didn’t Pack Up and go back to Glory! But he stuck around and kept on SEEKING Sinners to Save! And He’s Still seeking Sinners today! I wonder if He’s Seeking YOU today?
Why did Jesus Come Into this World? He came to save mankind from going to HELL because of SIN!
C. The MAJESTY Of His Incarnation
“We Beheld his Glory” John & those disciples actually saw his Glory!
On the Mount of Transfiguration, Peter James & John beheld his
Glory!
What are you saying? On the Mount of Transfiguration Jesus was
Changed!
The Glory Concealed in Jesus was Revealed on the Mount…!
The WORD Is-IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM!...page 4
It’s like this, in the Old Testament, the tabernacle is where the Glory of God was seen! But only the Priest were allowed on the inside! Everyone else had to stand on the out side! But John said, We Beheld His Glory as of the only begotten of the father, FULL of Grace and TRUTH!
John said We Saw the GLORY!
III. IT’S ALL ABOUT HIM IN REVELATION- (vs.18)
Jesus came to reveal God to man. The word “declare” means “to unfold.”
Every thing the Lord did, everything the Lord saidwas to reveal God to man!
Jesus is to us a Mirror of GOD! You want to know what God is Like, Look to Jesus!
God isMore than a Creator! God isMore than a law-Giver! God isMore than a Judge!He’s a GODFull of Mercy & Compassion & he came down to earth to save your Soul!
- He Came To Proclaim Light- (vs.4-9)
He came to a world in FULL of darkness and opened the curtains of Grace revealing the truth of God that men were wandering in darkness!
Jesus came as the Lighted Pathway that Leads to GOD! (John 14:6)
If you’re Lost this morning, Jesus IS The Way!
- He Came To Proclaim Life
John 10:10-The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am comethat they might have life, and that they might
haveitmore abundantly.
1-The Miracle of Salvation is NOT in Human Desire
Vs.13a.b.=”Which were born, not of blood, nor of
the will of the flesh”
There’s NOT a spark of divinity in us…!
Romans 3:11b-“…there is none that seeketh after
God…
We don’t go looking for God- He came Looking…!
2-The Miracle of Salvation is NOT in Human Design
Vs. 13d.=”…nor of the will of man”
Man could not have come up with a Solution to his problem!
How could sinful man Mend his Sin before a Holy God?
3-The Miracle of Salvation IS OF HOLY DESIRE
Vs.13e= “…But of GOD” GOD wants to save you….!
Conclusion:
I just simply want to say-
It’s ALL ABOUT HIM! It’s ALL About JESUS!
If God has spoken to you… then you need to COME To HIM, right Now!
