Deputy Head Teacher Job DescriptionResponsible to:The Headteacher

The post holder will fulfil the national conditions of employment as detailed in the current “Teachers’ Pay and Conditions” document, and will work tothe updated National Standards.

The post holder may also have responsibility as a class / subject teacher for an agreed proportion of the week.Specific responsibilities and key tasks will be negotiated on appointment, but are likely to include:

Supporting the Headteacher through:

Deputising for the Headteacher intheir absence, undertaking the professional duties of the Headteacher and acting within the agreed policies of the LA and the school

Modelling and actively promoting the ethos of the school through positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents, governors and all other stakeholders

Working in partnership with the Headteacher and senior management team regarding staffing, curriculum, and school organisation

Management of the school day including timetabling and staff cover

Contributing to maintaining and improving the highest standards of teaching and learning through professional monitoring and review, acting as an exemplar across the school

Managing pupil achievement data, and analysing results to address underperformance

Assisting with the care and support of pupils and staff, including newly appointed staff

Acting aslead for Performance Management and staff CPD (with budget responsibility)

Contributing to the planning, implementation, and review of the School Development Plan alongsidewhole school self evaluation

Ensuring that effective communication is maintained throughout the school

Remaining well informed of local and national initiatives and policies relevant to BESD pupils

Undertake any duties that the Headteacher may deem necessary from time to time, in order to cater for emerging needs within the school

Supporting pupils’ learning through:

Demonstrating empathy, resilience, flexibility, calmness, and consistency

Ensuring highest possible levels of pupil welfare and safety

Delivering outstanding teaching practice in the classroom

Sharing the application ofbest possible behaviourmanagementstrategies and techniques across the school

Taking a lead in teaching and learning, assessment, and curriculum development

Appropriate use of target setting and data analysis in order to motivate and inspire

Guiding, supporting, and coaching staff to support professional development and ensure achieveconsistently high standards in learning and behaviour

Salary: Leadership Scale 14 to 18 (£51,614 - £56,950).
