The Vienna Underground

General information

The Vienna Underground system has a long history and was opened in 1898. It has got 76 stations, 5 lines, and altogether it is 186.3 km long.

If you spend a day in Vienna, you can buy a 24-hour ticket, which you can use on any tram, bus, night bus, Underground, train, S-Bahn or ordinary train.

Mike:Let’s meet at Schwedenplatz Underground station tomorrow afternoon at

Tom:OK. What’s the best way to get there?

Mike:Volkstheater station is just round the corner. Get the U3 line from there to
Stephansplatz.

Then get the U1 line northbound to Schwedenplatz.

Tom:Right. In the afternoon I’ll be in the cinema in Gasometer. How do I get to
Zieglergasse from there?

Mike:Easy. From Gasometer take the U3 line westbound and it’s just 11 stops.

Tom:I want to go to a musical this evening in Kettenbrückengasse. How do I get
there from Zieglergasse?

Mike:That’s easy. Get the U3 line eastbound, change at Volkstheater. Take the U2
line southbound and change at Karlsplatz. Get the U4 line westbound and it
takes you straight to Kettenbrückengasse.

From Museumsquartier I take the U2 line southbound and change at Karlsplatz. Afterwards I get the U4 line northbound and again change at Landstraße/Wien Mitte. From Landstraße I then take the U3 and it takes me straight to Gasometer.

You are at Schottenring Underground station and you would like to go to Praterstern Underground station.

I take the U4 line and change at Schwedenplatz. Then I get the U1 line northbound to Praterstern Underground station. It’s just 2 stops.
