DAVID FARRELL HIGHER DEGREE BY RESEARCH AWARD
Scholarship Aim / The purpose of the scholarship is to assist Higher Degree by Research students experiencing hardship and studying full time in the pasture and animal nutrition field. Preference will be given to an international student demonstrating financial need.
Scholarship Value and Duration /
  1. The value of the scholarship is $2,500 for one year.
  2. One (1) scholarship may be awarded annually

Eligibility Criteria / An applicant is eligible for the award of a scholarship in a year if, in that year, the applicant:
  1. Is enrolled full time
  2. Is currently enrolled in a higher degree by research offered by the School of Agriculture and Food Science in the plant science and animal nutrition field
  3. Can demonstrate evidence of financial need
  4. Applies for the scholarship by the closing date for applications.

Selection Process / Selection of the scholar will be made by a committee comprised of the Head, School of Agriculture and Food Science or nominee and a teaching staff member from the field of plant science and animal nutrition. The selection must be endorsed by the Associate Dean (Academic) before being sent for approval by the Dean of the UQ Graduate School.
Thecommitteemustrank theeligible applicantsfortheyear consecutivelyin orderofmerit,basedon,for each applicant:
a.Financial circumstancesasevidenced bysupportingdocumentation;
b.Academicachievementintheir programtodate;
c.Preferencewill begiven toaninternational studentdemonstrating financial need;
d.Otherevidenceasmaybedeemed relevant tofuturesuccessinthe relevantfield
e.Anyothermattersthe committeeseesfit.
Conditions of Scholarship / Thescholarshipistenable foroneyearandissubjectto therecipient:
  1. Maintainingenrolment asa full-timepostgraduatestudent at the Schoolof Agriculture and FoodScience,TheUniversity of Queensland, unlessin special circumstancestheAssociateDean (Academic)otherwisedetermines;
  2. Demonstratingsatisfactoryprogressin theprogram.
  3. The funds must not be used for travel or subsistence. The award is to be used for research materials, analytical services, thesis preparation/binding, etc.

TheSelectionCommitteemaydecide tointerviewshort-listed applicants,and their determinationwillbeconsideredfinal;nofurthercommunicationwill be enteredinto.
