US Technical Championship

The US Technical Championship (USTC) is a unique opportunity to further develop and motivate young aspiring players to focus on the importance and power of skill when it is combined with confidence and creativity. Rene Meulensteen’s player development curriculum is the foundation for this event. Technical Championship competitions have been held in Belgium, the Netherlands, South-Africa, and now for the second year in the USA and Canada.

What is it?

The USTC is an event designed to teach players new skills to use in one of the four 1v1 situations. Players are encouraged to apply confidence and creativity when using these skills to dominate their opponent. Through activities and small-sided games, players are identified as being elite among their peers and are invited to the National Championship Event.Every player participating in the US Technical Championship Challenge, sponsored by the Soccer Club of Rockford, will receive a jersey, USTC medal and certificate.

How does it work?

The USTC event is split into two components. The first component, typically held in the morning, introduces players to the Meulensteen Methodology. Players learn the four 1v1 situations thru training activities designed by Coach Meulensteen. By providing clear purpose and direction, with repetition and positive encouragement, players grow in confidence. This confidence translates to success and they realize they are capable of solving the various 1v1 situations.

During the afternoon hours the challenge to the players increases as defenders are introduced to the activities along with various small-sided game situations where players are encouraged to showcase their skill, confidence, and creativity. The players who, in the judgment of the event coaches, demonstrate the greatest success and creativity in each age category throughout the event, are declared the winners and receive an invitation to participate in the 2015 US Technical Championship Finals!

What are the USTC Finals?

Winners of all the local USTC events are invited to the National Championship event. They receive a trophy for winning locally and compete for the title“2015 US National Technical Champion”.Players compete in one of four age categories: 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 years of age. This incredible national championship event will be held November, 2015, in Indianapolis, IN.
