The units of work undertaken throughout Year 9 include;

My-self, My-health

In this unit the concepts of a sense of self and positive thinking and how this can be supported are explored. The final lesson looks responsibility for actions through a series of scenarios. There is no formal assessment associated with this unit of work.

The Power of Relationships

This unit examines the concept of development and maintenance of equal and respectful relationships. Students are required to deconstruct relationships and determine the qualities of positive relationships and the characteristics of relationships which are not working effectively. Assessment is based on the analysis of a song and the design of a relationship building game.

The Culture Club of Food

This unit explores a range of cultural influences on the diet of people within the community such as religious belief, nationality, sporting background and media influences. A case study forms the basis of the formal assessment of this unit.

Lifelong Physical Activity

This unit combines theory and practical concepts and explores the role of physical activity in stress management and lifelong health. Students will experience a range of alternative physical activities and have to evaluate the suitability of these for a range of individuals.

Life Changes

This unit examines the challenges and changes which adolescents face as they become adults. It includes preparing for work and understanding the changing nature of relationships with their peers and parents. Assessment is based on the analysis of an individual’s life.

Difference and Diversity

This unit is designed to affirm in students the value of diversity within the community. It helps students to define the concepts of harassment, discrimination and vilification. Students deconstructthe NSW anti-discrimination act. There is no formal assessment within this unit.

Health consumerism

This unit will assist students to develop their knowledge and skills associated with accessing and utilising health information and services. Students will analyse a range of websites and other information to determine its value to individuals and the community.

Practical Units undertaken in Year 9 include;

Touch, Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics.
