Structure of Unit

Mode of Delivery;

The unit will be delivered using a range of methods;-

Lectures

Week 1 / 01/10/09 / Introduction to course specifically Department’s three core subjects, expectations of academic life, centrality of self reflection and managing own learning.
Week 2 / 08/10/09 / Skills – Problems in terms of categorisation and the skills that future employers expect of graduates and their consistency to academic development.
Week 3 / 15/10/09 / Listening Skills – different lecturing styles and approaches. How to listen and take notes.
Week 5 / 29/10/09 / Academic Writing – the hard and fast rules of academic writing.
Week 8 / 26/11/09 / Introduction and setting the scene for Critical Thinking.

In the Term Two there will be Four lectures, they are as follows;-

Week 11 / 14/01/10 / Information Research Skills – Introducing the various methods of accessing electronic information for academic study
Week 13 / 28/01/10 / Group Work – Project Initiation and Management
Week 18 / 11/03/10 / Getting and Making the Most of Work Experience
Week 19 / 18/03/10 / Employability and Personal Development

Lectures will be one hour long and in those weeks when a lecture is scheduled the seminar will be for one hour only. In weeks when there are no lecture the seminar will be two hours long.

On those weeks when there is a lecture it will be on Thursday, 1 – 2 p.m.
