December 14, 2016

Dear Student,

The UNCW Office of the Registrar has notified University College that you have not met the required term GPA for eligibility to continue at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. You are being dismissed for earning a 0.0 grade point average for the Fall 2016 term and are academically suspended for Spring 2017 and Summer 2017. Please review the information in the Undergraduate Catalogue pertaining to Retention, Dismissal and Readmission at: http://catalogue.uncw.edu/content.php?catoid=35&navoid=4606#Retention__Dismissal_and_Readmission

It is not the preference of University College to dismiss students and we understand there are many reasons why students are not successful. Sometimes it is beneficial to take time away from school and reflect on the reasons for poor academic performance. However, if you believe that your poor grades were due to an extenuating circumstance, you may choose to appeal this dismissal by following the instructions at: http://www.uncw.edu/uc/advising/appeal.html.

If your appeal is granted, you may be required to participate in an Academic Intervention and Retention Program to help you improve your academic standing. If you choose not to appeal, you have the option to petition for academic re-instatement for Fall 2017 provided that you submit the required application materials to the Office of the Registrar due March 1, 2017.

If you reside on campus, and you choose not to appeal, you must be moved out of your room within 48 hours. If you choose to appeal and it is denied, you must be moved out of your room no later than January 6, 2017 by 5:00pm. Please contact Housing and Residence Life at (910) 962-3241 if you have questions about this process.

If you are dismissed, spring charges on your student account will be removed within the next 7-10 business days and a refund will be issued if the removal of the spring charges results in a credit balance. Please monitor your student account as you will be financially responsible if a balance remains after the spring charges have been removed. Failure to leave the University in good financial standing will result in a transcript hold on your account and will eventually result in your account being sent to collections.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington will be closed December 23, 2016 and reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Academic advisors will be available to respond to any questions after the holiday break.

Sincerely,

Dr. Melinda J. Anderson

Director, University College
