The Trojan War vs Troy:the Movie

How does the movie “Troy” compare to the legend of the battle between Troy and the Greeks as described by Homer in the Illiad and other ancient writers through the retelling of Greek myths?

In roughly two pages typed (double-spaced), examine the myth/legend of Troy and, using a critical eye, compare it to the movie we watched in class. You may examine both similarities and differences but make sure to use specific examples and relate them back to the historical documentation.

You must also answer this critical thinking question: Should Hollywood have the right to change important historical details for creative purposes? Are there any limits you would include?

Here are some points to consider to get started:

1)How Achilles initially is recruited by Agamemnon to join the battle (see #7)

2)The story of Paris and Helen (see #6)

3)The role of the gods and other supernatural beings

4)Which parts of the movie do you think are accurate according to the following descriptions?

5)What parts of the legend does the movie discuss?

6)What parts of the legend does the movie leave out? Why do you think that is?

On the blog (mcibugelli.wordpress.com) under Nov 28th there will be posted some links to various print sources/ movies that you can watch to help you with this assignment.
