The Town of Schmalkalden
Based on a 100-year-old tradition of higher education in Schmalkalden, the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) was founded on October 1, 1991, and is thus one of Germany's newest universities. Schmalkalden is a charming town with an 1125-year history and a population of about 20 000 situated on the southern edge of the Thuringian Forest. The town lies 70 km south-west of Erfurt and 180 km north-east of Frankfurt am Main, in the central German state of Thuringia.

DATES and FEES:

Fall semester: early October - mid January
Spring semester: late March - late July

KIMEP Exchange Students pay tuition fee to KIMEP, but all other expenses are the responsibility of applicants:

Accommodation Fee

·  Dormitory: about 200 EURO

Estimated Living Costs per month

·  Meals: US 300-400 dollars

·  Transportation (local): US 50 dollars

·  Miscellaneous: around 100 EURO

Other Expenses

·  Visa and insurance: about 50+50 EURO

·  Round ticket: about 700 EURO


Total: about US 4,000 dollars plus personal expenses.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

I.  KIMEP Application Procedure:

In order to apply for the exchange program to the UAS, please ensure that you satisfy the requirements of the program and submit necessary completed documents to the International Relations Office in KIMEP:

·  Good English skills

·  At least one full year of undergraduate or one full semester of graduate study at KIMEP

·  Completed Application Form for Pre-Approval of Transfer/Substitute Courses for KIMEP Exchange Students (download it from our website at www.kimep.kz/international - KIMEP Students - How to Apply)

·  Completed KIMEP’s Application Form (download it from our website at www.kimep.kz/international - KIMEP Students - How to Apply)

·  A recommendation letter from a KIMEP faculty member

·  A copy of your transcript

Application Procedure:

Having been nominated as an exchange student to the University of Applied Sciences, your next step would be to complete the documents listed below and send them by email to the university in Germany:

·  Scanned copy of your student ID

International Summer School in Schmalkalden, Germany

The International Summer School in Schmalkalden focuses on the challenges confronting the world economy under the conditions of cross-cultural management.

Date: 11 June - 30 June*

While staying in Schmalkalden, the visiting students and professors have the opportunity to participate at no extra cost in the tours and events.

KIMEP students will take subjects related to International Economics and Cultural Management. These courses will be taught by distinguished professors from various countries like Italy, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Germany and etc. Courses taken there can be transferred to KIMEP.

KIMEP students will have to cover:

·  Tuition fees, accommodation and cultural program: 400 EURO

·  Round ticket: around 700 EURO

·  Visa and insurance: around 50 + 50 EURO

·  Meals: about US 3 dollars per meal

·  Other expenses: around 100 EURO


To apply for the program, you need to fill out the ISSS Application Form available at http://www.fh-schmalkalden.de/Application_Form-page-3837.html and send it back to the ISSS Coordinator. You can pay for the program upon your arrival in Schmalkalden.
