The Deb Brennan Family is offering a scholarship program to Ogilvie High School Volleyball and/or Track and Field Participants. The Traditional scholarship programis open to all participants pursuing higher education, who are graduating fromOgilvie High School in 2016.

The total amount that will be given out for the 2016-2017 school year is $1,000:

  • Traditional Scholarships: Two (2) awarded for $500 each
  • There will be a one-year expiration date on all scholarships.
  • Scholarships will be paid out directly to the school after the student’s first semester with at least a 2.0 grade point average.

The application criteria are as follows:

  • Must be an active participant in OHS Volleyball and/or Track and Field.
  • Must write an essay of 500-1,000 words.

Essay question:Identify one great thing you would like to accomplish in 2016 and how Deb Brennan inspired and/or influenced you.

  • The applicant’s name, and the names of any of the applicant’s family members,should be omitted from the essay; it will be cross-referenced to the application form by a number; an essay received with the applicant’s name or family members’ names will result in the disqualification of the application
  • Must be a high school senior seeking higher education (traditional)
  • Scholarships will be awarded to applicants attending any post-secondary, accredited school
    (2-year, 4-year, trade school, vocational school, etc.)
  • Applicants will be selected by a committee based on the following: overall presentation of essay and application (appearance, style, grammar, content); community involvement; school/extracurricular activities

  • Applications will be available beginning Monday, February 9, 2016.
  • You must apply by 11:59:59 p.m., April 1, 2016.

Disbursement of Funds:

Award winners will receive their scholarship money after completing the first semester of the 2016/2017 school year. Recipients must submit to the Deb Brennan Memorial Scholarship Committee (DBMSC) a transcript from the fall of 2016, not to include post-secondary classes, and proof of registration for spring 2017; as well as the name and address of the school you are attending, your home mailing address, your phone number and email address in the event the DBMSC has questions. Upon receiving this information, scholarship money will then be provided to the recipient in the form of a check payable to the post-secondary school. Scholarship recipients who attend school for fall semester only WILL NOT receive scholarship money.

The following stipulations will be indicated when funds are submitted to the schools:

  • The student must have a GPA of 2.0 or better for the fall 2016 semester.
  • The student must be in active status and attending classes part time or full time.
  • Any scholarship funds not withdrawn by the recipient by the end of the school year for authorized expenses shall be forfeited by the recipient and returned to DBMS.

Promotion and Recognition:

Scholarshiprecipients will be announced to the Ogilvie High School Principal by May 1, 2016. Recipients will be notified at high school scholarship awards events; by postal mail; or by email. Winners may be asked to submit a photo for promotional use and public announcement of the awards.
