Т: Good afternoon, children. There are many holidays in our country and in English-speaking countries. But the holidays we like most of all are New Year`s Day and Christmas.
Christmas Day is the greatest holiday in England. People prepare for this holidays beforehand: they send greeting cards, buy presents, make fancy dresses and decorate their houses. And when the holiday comes they congratulate each other, sing carols, songs and recitepoems. Every holiday has its own symbols.
T: What Christmas symbols do you know?
P: A bell,a Christmas tree, a reindeer, Santa Claus, a wreath, a candle, a stocking.
T: On the 25th of December English people and people who live in Europe and America always celebrate Christmas and I`d like you to take part in the competition “Christmas and New Year Traditions”.
All children like competitions so we have two teams and of course we need names for them. I`ve prepared two envelopes, inside you will find letters. Your task is to arrange the letters and to get the name of your team.
The names of the teams are:“Crackers” and “Confetti”.
Let`s start our game. Who wants to start the Christmas game.
P: We do.
II. MESSAGE TO SANTA CLAUS.
T: I think it would be better to choose the team to start the game. Your task is to read this message to Santa Claus. Draw lines like this to separate the words. The first team will begin our game.
Thank you. I think team “……………” is our first winner.
III. QUIZ.
T: That`s why you can start our Christmas game with the quiz “Christmas and New Year Traditions”. Remember everything you know about Christmas and New Year celebration.
Each team is given one question in turn. If the team fails to answer it the other one can try to do it. A right answer gives one point. Let`s start.

T: When is New Year`s Day celebrated in Belarus?
P: It`s celebrated on December 31.
T: Is New Year as widely celebrated as Christmas in Great Britain?
P: No, it isn`t. Some people even ignore it.
T: Every country has its own traditions connected with the New Year. Have you heard about them?
P 1:Yes.There is a funny tradition: the First Foot. This is a first visitor to enter a house on New Year`s morning. He is a person of great importance.
P2: The First Foot must be a man because it is believed that a woman brings bad luck. He must carry food, drink and coal into the house.
IV. NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS.
T: Writing the New Year Resolutions is another good tradition in Britain. Many people make such resolutions: they promise themselves to improve their business and health and to do a lot of different things.
And what about schoolchildren?
P1: Schoolchildren decide to do their best to study and obey their parents and teachers.
T:Do your parents make such resolutions?
P2: Yes they do. My parents plan to work harder, to save money, to give up smoking and so on.
T: Now I think is hightime to our teams to make New Year Resolutions. Each member of every team should write a resolution. The team that will write more resolutions in 3 minutes and won`t repeat them will be the winner.
T:OK. We hope all your dreams and resolutions will come true next year and you, your parents, relatives and friends will be healthy, wealthy and happy. Do only the best and hope only for the best.
V. “ TRUE and FALSE”
And now it`s time to play and find out who is the quickest in your team. The game is called “True and False”. There are two chairs: one is “True” and the other is “False”. You will hear some statements and if it is true you will have to sit down on the true chair. If the statement is wrong you will have to run to the false chair.
We need two players from different teams for one statement. The right answers will give one point .

Do you know how Christmas cards appeared?
The first Christmas cards appeared in1843. Sir Henry Cole invented it. One side of the card was a short greeting and another- a nice picture. Soon these cards became very popular.
Have you ever sent Christmas and New Year Cards? Let`s congratulate each other with the help of a greeting card. Each team will make a card for the other team. You have 5 min.
