Summary of Discussion
Ms Helpful reports that the diversity lessons have generally gone well, most of the pupils contributed in a thoughtful way, one child, A, did make some inappropriate comments that upset Tia in the first session, this was dealt with outside of the classroom and included A’s parents. Marion reports that Tia’s behaviour that evening was poor and she was adamant she was not attending school the following day, however EWO visited in the morning and Tia went to school with her. Marion states that the support from EWO has been very helpful.
Tia shares that some of the girls that have been nasty to her have come and apologised and asked her questions about Jack, this had led to more problems with A, who now accuses Tia of stealing her friends. The other girls do stick up for Tia when this has happened.
Tia would like to attend Karate with the girl next door, C. Marion is happy for Tia to attend when Whiston is not working, so that he can take Tia and pick her up. Due to his shift pattern, this has yet to happen. Tia reports that C walks on her own and she does not see why she cannot walk on her own too. Marion reports that C is two years older than Tia. Marion does not think that Tia is old enough to walk all the way to Fort Regent on her own. It is discussed that Tia will be attending Le Rocquier in September, most young people take themselves to school in year 7 and Le Rocquier is the same distance as the Fort. Marion accepts that Tia is sensible and has good road sense, but is worried about the narrow pavements and the fact that it is dark in the evenings. Ms Dependable suggests that they can talk this through during their next session, to agree what would need to happen for Marion to feel comfortable allowing Tia some independence. Marion agrees and states that next week Whiston is on earlies, so Tia will be able to go.
Tia reports that she likes attending youth club with Jack and does not want to attend a community activity with him. After Tia has left the meeting, Marion reports that she thinks Tia does not want to be seen in public with Jack. She creates a fuss if Marion tries to take the two of them to the shops together and when they do go out as a family, Tia walks behind. Mr Generous suggests that Tia could be referred to the My Time Project, this is a Young Carers group, she would be able to mix with other young people who have family members who have a disability. Tia would get support from other young people in similar situations, but could also access 1:1 support and counselling, if required.
Marion reports that Tia had started to play out again, the girls were being kinder to her, but A pushed her over. Marion went out to assist Tia and A’s mother came out of her home and began shouting and screaming at her. Marion states she feels intimated by A’s mum. Marion reports that every t9ime she leaves the house, A’s mum shouts abuse at her and Tia will now not leave the house unless an adult is with her.
Marion states she has not made a complaint to housing, as she is frightened of making things worse. Ms Dependable suggests that Marion contacts housing during their appointment tomorrow and she will support her. Marion agrees to this.
