The Tallest of All Land-Living Animal >
Giraffe was the first animail that I visited in the zoo when I was young. The tallest animal in the world eats something from high up on the tree and keeps on moving its mouth; that always makes children surprised. The giraffe (Giraffa camepopardalis) is in the unique family called Giraffidae; consisting only of the giraffe. Giraffes live savannas, grasslands, or open woodlands. Male giraffe can grow average of 4.8 to 5.5 metres tall and weigh up to 1,700 kilograms. However, females are generally shorter and lighter than males. Their tall height allows it to browse on high foliage. This "bird's-eye view" is also the animal's principal defense against predators, allowing it to spot danger. Their special colour decorated body, with spots of darker brown, provides excellent camouflage, which is another aid to their survival. They lives where acacia growth. As consuming large quantities of water, they can survive long periods of time in dry and arid areas. Both sexes have horns, although the horns of a female are smaller. Giraffes have long necks to eat the leaves of trees. Giraffids evolved from a 3metre tall antelope-like mammal which roamed Europe and Asia 30-50 million years ago. The giraffe also evolved their own organ structures to support special body shape against gravity particularly to the circulatory system.
