Recommendations for FY06 DoE ILC program funding allocations

G. Dugan

ILC-Americas Regional Director

The table below presents the recommended FY06 DoE ILC program funds by institution. The rightmost column assumes an available FY06 funding of $27M; the columns to the left correspond to possible additions of $3.5M and $9M, which might result from Congressional action.

These allocations were arrived after a review of the proposed programs in several visits to each of the principal labs. The allocations continue the accelerator design and general technology R&D efforts at SLAC, LBNL, LLNL, and BNL, and build up accelerator design and R&D efforts in superconducting RF technology at Fermilab and Jefferson Lab. Small amounts of funds are reserved for efforts related to the production of the reference design report (RDR) and industrial cost studies. Some contingency is also reserved for the GDE.

As funds are added to the program in the center and leftmost columns, these flow predominantly into the buildup of the program at Fermilab.

At present, the complete scope of effort required for the preparation of the reference design report (RDR) is not well defined. In addition, the details of the required technology R&D program have not been worked out. Consequently, notwithstanding the contingency allocation indicated in the table, it may be necessary to re-program some of the design and technology R&D efforts within each laboratory, to meet the obligations of the GDE to complete the RDR, and to adjust the technology R&D efforts to the needs of the GDE. This re-programming could occur early in calendar 2006, once the baseline is established and the path to completion of the RDR is defined.
