FIRE PROCEDURES

Ø  In the event of anyone finding a fire the alarm must be raised. This should be done by breaking the glass in the fire alarm point box. These boxes are placed around the setting. It is the responsibility of all staff, partners and other service users to ensure they familiarise themselves with the position of these points and the position of any fire fighting equipment, for example the fire blankets in the kitchen areas and the emergency exit points.

Ø  If you hear the fire alarm you must leave the building by the nearest safe exit immediately. Do not wait to collect your belongings.

Ø  FIRE EXITS ARE SITUATED AND LABELLED IN EACH CLASSROOM AND WORK AREA

Ø  When a Fire Alarm is sounded a member of staff from each area will check all areas of provision including the toilets to ensure all children have exited the building.

Ø  A member of staff from the office is responsible for taking the register outside to check all children are present.

Ø  A member of staff from the office will be responsible for ensuring they collect the emergency contact details.

Ø  The person on duty at reception will be responsible for:

1 > Contacting the emergency services 999.

2 Collect the Staff and Visitors signing in /out records.

3 > Check all personnel against the Signing In / Out Records.

4 > Inform the Head Teacher the result of the checks.

Ø  All staff and visitors will evacuate the building and meet at the designated Fire Assembly point on the main playground. Please do not re enter the building until you have been advised to do so

Ø  There will be regular Fire Evacuation practices during which these procedures will be carried out, monitored, evaluated and recorded in the Fire Drill File.

Ø  There will be regular Fire Alarm Tests and equipment checks, to ensure that they are kept in good working order. These checks will be monitored and recorded in the Fire Equipment File (caretaker records).
