“How importers should respond and adapt to Customs enforcement challenges”
Over the past several months U.S. Customs and Border Protection has noticeably increased its emphasis on trade enforcement. Although “Informed Compliance” has not disappeared, it seems clear that Customs enforcement is on the upswing – from detentions and seizures for public health and safety violations to penalties for transshipment or valuation infractions. Vigilant and compliant importers know that an understanding of Customs enforcement tools and appropriate compliance processes are important keys to maintaining good rapport and credibility with Customs - and critical to minimizing cargo delays or the severe consequences of fines and penalties. In this 90-minute teleconference, representatives from CBP and an experienced customs attorney will discuss the various Customs enforcement tools employed by the agency, as well as remedies and preventive measures that importers may utilize to protect themselves and their supply chains.
In this 90-minute live teleconference, you will learn about:
· Why Customs has stepped up its trade enforcement
· Which violations and compliance issues Customs considers a priority
· A new focus on transshipment and country of origin infractions
· How Customs is utilizing Section 1592 civil penalties, seizures, detentions and liquidated damages
· How to address Civil Penalties and preventive measures to minimize their occurrence
· How Prior Disclosure works and how it can “Save the Day”
· The nuts and bolts of settlement offers (“Offers in Compromise”)
· Tips on preserving and protecting your company’s reputation with Customs
