THE STANWAY SCHOOL TEACHER OF SCIENCE

An enthusiastic, hard-working and well-qualified Teacher of Science is required from September 2015 to teach across the age and ability range.

The Science Department consists of eight full-time teaching staff and is well supported by four technicians. The department is housed in a purpose-built block with full ICT facilities. Teaching staff have their own desks with ICT connections in a large work-base which includes a kitchen and washroom facilities.

The students are taught on a weekly timetable and years 7 and 8 currently follow an in-house written Science course. At presentall of the year 9 population have started the AQA GCSE Science.

Assessment for Learning underpins lesson planning and assessment and we are confident that the majority of students know how to improve and are committed to doing so. The number of students achieving Levels 5 and 6 at KS3 are rising significantly each year. The department is committed to continue to improve these figures.

There is a new STEM club for Key Stage 3 which encourages interest and excitement about Science as well as a Robotics club and a Code breaker club.

At KS4 students follow the AQA Science A course in Year 10 and Additional Science in Year 11. They are taught six 50 minute lessons a week. The results of these external exams are used for setting and tracking purposes, offering advice and encouragement to students. Students in Years 10 and 11 are supported by after school revision classes leading up to the examinations. There is also one Triple Science group in Years 10 and 11 for the higher attaining students.

The department has achieved record results last year with over 90% of students achieving C+ grades in GCSE Core Science and record results for A*/A grades in Triple subjects.

The department is a lively, hard-working and committed group of scientists who work well as part of a team. They are committed to raising achievement further and develop more opportunities for the use of ICT in Science lessons. All members of the department play a role in development and would gladly welcome a new colleague.
