The smartphone in the door

Schüco DCS Touch Display

Bielefeld. The new Touch Display for the Schüco Door Control System (DCS) is an innovation in door management. Stylish, flush-fitted in the door profile and measuring over four inches, the Touch Display can be operated intuitively like a smartphone. At the same time it combines all the functions of door communication and access control. This means that the house number, scrollable doorbell list, numerical code, intercom system with video camera and door opener are all integral components of the system. With the Schüco DCS Touch Display, the company is adding to its modular Door Control System, which has already won multiple design awards.

Function

The individually programmable Schüco DCS Touch Display functions as follows: Motion detection by the video camera activates the system as soon as a person approaches the entrance. In a detached house, the view switches from the house number to the bell symbol with the name of the homeowner. A portrait silhouette is also displayed which can be replaced with a real photo of the resident. In apartment buildings, upon approach the house number switches to an alphabetical doorbell list which can be scrolled through like on a smartphone. When the visitor touches the bell symbol on the display, the doorbell is triggered and confirmed with a ringtone. The doorbell can be heard as well as seen. The video camera transmits the image of the visitor to the internal intercom system (Schüco internal video station or IP videophone, smartphone, tablet, softphone), so that the resident can identify who is at their front door without having to open it. The video camera's wide angle of coverage allows a generous all-round view of the entrance area. If the resident decides to establish contact with the visitor via the intercom, a mouth symbol will appear on the outside screen. Both people can now communicate with one another. If there is loud background noise, automatic background noise suppression and volume control ensure seamless communication. If the resident operates the door opener, the display will show a door symbol, which means that the visitor is able to open the door.

Those with authorisation gain entry by switching from the doorbell buttons to the code keypad using swipe technology. Then they input their individually stored numerical code to access the building. The DCS Touch Display also allows time-dependent access management which can be programmed by the hour or day of the week – for example for service providers who only require access to the building at specific times.

Security

The Schüco DCS Touch Display also sets standards with regards to security. This is ensured by a rotating digit system for code entry and integrated mechanical and acoustic anti-theft protection for the DCS Touch Display. The DCS Touch Display is also encrypted by the internal control unit; the lock is securely controlled from the inside via the IP secure connector. If the Touch Display is stolen, the IP secure connector automatically breaks the network connection so that the lock cannot be manipulated and the internal network cannot be accessed either.

Technical details

With full integration into the IP network and the use of internet technology, the DCS Touch Display opens up completely new possibilities and applications. Voice and video calls are transferred using the open SIP standard and can be accepted directly by IP videophones, smartphones, tablets and softphones – both within the local network and worldwide via the Internet. Hence wherever they are in the world, the homeowner knows who is at their front door.

Installation

The Schüco DCS Touch Display provides flush-fitted profile integration in the outer frame or door leaf. It can also be surface-mounted or installed in a panel on the wall on request.
