WRVS have dropped the ‘W’ from their name and are now knows as just the Royal Voluntary Service. Services in Darlington include transport to appointments, shopping, mobile books, befriending and meals on wheels.
5.Around the room updates
HealthwatchDarlingtonhas now established a Board and a workplan has been developed which will be shared in the next newsletter.

Maidendale House – 2nd Thursday of month 11.00-13.30
Cockerton Library – 3rd Thursday of month 15.00-17.00
JJ’s Cafe – 4th Thursday of month 11.15-14.00
DAD now doing outreach as far as Durham and surrounding areas.
Advocacy through IMHA and IMCA has been transferred to DAD. People can self refer or be referred through social services.
Together – Still provide advocacy for people with no involvement with social services and now do tribunals. (Your Voice Advocacy – Looking for Vols)
CAB – Outreach provided at West park, Macmillan, Children’s Centre and GP practices. A new project called ‘Advice for All’ will be up and running by November and will involve a 10 minute diagnostic triage and signpost to correct services.
Morrisons Trust – provide employment support for anyone who is unemployed. Help with CV, application forms and training. Project around Family wise – longer term unemployed need support to get back into work.
Money Works – Projects in partnership with Credit Union and Morrisons Trust – Education delivered 1 on 1, then group workshops. Budget planner Interview and signposting.
Talking Changes – Running local IAPT. Working with GP’s to look at a stepped care model and offer a gateway into secondary care for people aged 16+. Home visits are available.
Age UK – Launching Good Friends project on 1st October. Looking for volunteers, who will be locally police checked and training can be offered where needed.
Talking Newspaper – Promoting boomboxes for superior quality sound. Coffee morning taking place on 21st September at Bondgate Methodist Church.
GOLD – Tea Dance was a success. Looking into ‘Dignity in Care’ work with NHS. They will have a stall at the Full of Life Day which includes table tennis to improve hand/eye coordination.
PFIS – Relaunched directory on website.
DTM – Referrals via social services for people aged 80+. Looking for volunteer drivers and visitors.
Durham Deafened Support – Can provide 1 to 1 support for people with hearing loss, help with communications and equipment, signpost and run a support group at the Havelock Centre.
NHS Stop Smoking Specialists – Stoptober (Details to be emailed) Running clinics in surgeries, community venues/home visits, signposting. – Referrals can be done by telephone.
DWP – National partnership team working on welfare reform. P.I.P replaced DLA in April 13. From 7th October reassessment of people receiving DLA. For further information contact
Care and Repair handyman service closing. Age UK looking at extending their service and providing help for a small charge.
