The ThirdInternational Symposium on
Arid Climate Change and Sustainable Development
(ISACS-3)
September 2010, Lanzhou, Gansu, P. R. China
(First Circular)
The Third International Symposium on Arid Climate Change and Sustainable Development (ISACS-3) is to be held inLanzhou, China, September 2010.
Accompanied by global continuouswarming the distribution patterns of wet and dryareas have been changing. Frequency and intensity of extreme weather and climate events, such as drought, heat wave etc. areincreasingand theirimpacts are expanding. Drought as well as the correlative social and economic issues havedrawn more and more concerns of international communities. How to address to arid climate change andimplement sustainable development aregreatchallengesfor the wholeworld.
Northwest region of China, one of the most sensitive regions to global climate change, is hit by drought severely.SoISACS-3held here in Lanzhouwouldbe of great valuablefor promoting researcheson such areas all over the world. And it will play an active role in exchanging experiences and sharing research results, discussing social and economic development in arid regions, andpromoting cooperation among meteorologists and researchersworldwide.
The symposium focus on Responding to DroughtChallenge, including five themes: Technologies of monitoring, prediction and assessment on arid disasters, Observing and modeling of land surface processes in arid regions, Impacts of sand-dust aerosol on weather and climate, Rational utilization of climate and water resources in arid regions, and Characteristics and impacts of climate change in arid regions.
