Full Release:
(Portland, OR and Surrounding Area)01 August 2017 - The Salvation Army, in an effort to bring heat-relief to those in need in Portland and the surrounding areas, will be providing multiple services in multiple locations to those in need. While all locations of The Salvation Army can provide water distribution and other social services; here are a few specific locations whom will be providing specific additional servicesduring the excessive heat days:
Portland Moore Street: 5325 N Williams Ave, Portland, OR 97217
Will be opening our doors as a Cooling and Hydration Station in the corps building of our campus on Tuesday through Friday from 12:00pm-8:00pm. They will be offering overnight emergency shelter as temperatures cool down substantially in the evening, post sunset. They will have water to hand out to those in need and cots set up for those who need rest in the cool. Additionally, they will have movies to play in the chapel and board and card games for people to have something fun to do.
Portland Tabernacle: 1712 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97232
Will be passing out water and juice-pops during the peak heat times (11am-4pm) during the heat-wave as well as providing shade areas and water stations on and in their property. They will also be opening their senior center for additional heat-relief to those who need it starting 01 August 2017 - 04 August 2017, from 10:00a - 4:00p
SAFES (Salvation Army Female Emergency Shelter) 30 SW 2nd Ave, Portland, OR 97204
Will be have bottles of water and refillable bottles as well as Popsicles and a cool space. They will be opening their dorms early (at 4pm) to accommodate more women in the day space.
The Salvation Army Administrative Headquarters: 8495 SE Monterey Ave, Happy Valley, OR 97086
They will be opening their doors as a cooling and hydration center, and allowing all those who need to get out of the heat to come into an air conditioned environment where there will be games and projects for children and their parents, as well as movies being played and beverages served.
