About RoadPeace

RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims in the UK. We provide information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes, and engage in evidence based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger. Set up in 1992 by a mother whose son was killed by a red light offender, we are a membership organisation whose work is informed by the needs and experiences of road crash victims. RoadPeace is governed by a board of trustees, has a small staff team of 5 and a network of active members and volunteers.

The role – Community Fundraising Volunteer

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in a small but impactfulcharity and help road crash victims and their family and friends. We are seeking an organised and compassionate individual with excellent interpersonal skills to support our community fundraisers, working closely with our Fundraising and Membership Manager, at our head office in London. Responsibilities include responding to queries from current and potentialcommunity fundraisers and supporting them in their fundraisingjourney with RoadPeace.

Job Description

This is a volunteer post. The post holder will be able to volunteer for 1 or 2 days a week at our Brixton office in south London and ideally commit to a 3 month period.Travel expenses within London and a daily lunch allowance will be provided. The post holder will report to the Fundraising and Membership Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support all community fundraisers and fundraising activities, including acknowledging new fundraisers, supporting them through their fundraising activity and any follow up as needed.
  • To record and maintain up to date records of all fundraisers, fundraising events and donations on RoadPeace’s database, including those via web-based fundraising and online giving sites.
  • To ensure that fundraisers are thanked and followed up appropriately.
  • To respond to requests (by phone, mail and in person) from fundraisers for information packs, publicity materials, running shirts etc.
  • To coordinate RoadPeace representation at events and cheque presentations.
  • To research new and imaginative fundraising activities.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the line manager, or CEO.

Person Specification

  1. Able to commit to 1 or 2 days a week for a 3 month period.
  2. Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  3. Experience of working in a busy office environment.
  4. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to work methodically, prioritise a busy workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines in a professional manner.
  5. IT literate – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experience of using databases.
  6. Good written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  7. Flexible approach and willingness to do a mixture of planned and reactive work to support fundraising priorities.
  8. Compassionate and able to communicate sensitively to vulnerable people.
  9. Resilient and able to work in an environment that involves hearing of trauma and bereavement on a daily basis.
  10. Determined to act with integrity and in accordance with the organisation’s values and obligations.
