Dear Parents,
We are working on our IB unit, “Where we are in place and time”. We are inquiring abouthow the geography of a region affects its people’s way of life.
We are sending home the information of the project in advance, so that students can begin to think about their project. Second grade students are asked to create a poster or collage of a house/shelter from one region/country of the world. The home will reflect that region’s geography and people’s choice of building material that is well adapted to the terrain and weather demands of that location.Students must have some reference to the geographic features or accidents that are present in that part of the world. These features must be illustrated and labeled somewhere on the poster. Students are asked to be creative in their design/illustrations. They may use any art medium, but because of space limitations, are asked to keep their presentations as 2-dimensional.The project will be presented to the class in Spanish or English.
The requirements are as follows:
The project is due Monday, March 6, 2017. Points will be deducted for late projects.
The student needs to select a country from the attached sheet to start their research.The student will create a poster of a house/shelter that reflects a geographic location, as well as displaying the different geographic features of that region. The student must clearly show details of the home using any art medium they choose. The student will be assessed on his/her creativity, and how he/she applied their research and self-management skills.
The student must answer the following questions while assessed during his/her presentation.
1-Describe your home. 2-Where in the world would your home be built? (region/location/climate) 3- What materials do people use to build their homes in that country/city? 4-Why is this type of home important to people? 5-Why did you choose to build this type of home? 6-What activities do people practice/do at this geographical location?
Materials:
Students may use any art medium as long as the product is 2-dimensional. Electronic presentations are welcome.

Estimados Padres:
Estamos trabajando en la unidad de IB, “Donde nos encontramos en el tiempo y en el espacio”. Nos proponemos realizar una indagación sobre cómo la geografía de una región influye en el modo de vida de la gente.
Les estamos enviando la informacióndel proyecto para que lo hagan en la casa. A los estudiantes de segundo grado se les pide que diseñen un cartelero/pósterde una casa o refugio que refleje la geografía de esa región y las razones por las cuales la gente escoge tipos de materiales de construcción para adaptarse al clima y terreno. Los estudiantes deben de incluir características del terreno o ejemplos de accidentes geográficos de esa región.Estas características se mostrarán ilustradas y rotuladas en el póster. Se espera que los estudiantes sean creativos en sus diseños. Pueden usar cualquier medio de arte, pero se les pide que el producto final sea de 2 dimensiones (plano). Los estudiantes presentarán su proyecto a la clase en español o inglés.
Los requisitos del proyecto son los siguientes:
El proyecto debe entregarse el lunes 6 de marzo de 2017. Los proyectos entregados fuera del plazo perderán puntuación.
El estudiante tiene que seleccionar un país del documento adjunto para empezar su investigación. El estudiante diseñará su cartelero/póster de una casa o refugio que refleje un área geográfica o un país y las características de esa parte del mundo. El estudiante debe mostrar claramente los detalles de la casa usando cualquier medio de arte que quieran.Se evaluará la creatividad del estudiante, así como la aplicación de sus habilidades de investigación y de auto-gestión.
Durante la presentación, el estudiante deberá responder a una serie de preguntas sobre las que será evaluado:
1. ¿En qué lugar del mundo se construiría la casa? 2. Describe la casa3. ¿Qué materiales se usan en la vida real para construir la casa en ese país/estado/ciudad? 4. ¿Por qué este tipo de casa es importante para la gente? 5. ¿Por qué decidiste construir este tipo de casa? 6. ¿Qué actividades puede hacer la gente en esta área geográfica?
Materiales:
Los estudiantes pueden usar cualquier medio de arte con tal que sea 2 dimensiones. Presentaciones electrónicas también se aceptarán.
