Extremeenvironmentaleventsarebecomingmorecommoninthistimeofglobalenvironmentalchangeanditisessentialthattoday'sstudentsbeequippedwiththeknowledgeandskillstobeleadersinunderstandingtheupheavalthattheseextremeenvironmentaleventsarecausing.TheRemoteSensingofEnvironmentalChange minorprogram(RESC) isdesignedtobuild students’understandingglobal environmental change inordertoassesstheirimpactsonthephysicalandhumanlandscapes,andtouseremotesensingasananalyticaltoolforidentifyingtheimpacts. StudentsintheminorprogramwillreceivetechnicaltraininginremotesensingtoexaminehowextremeenvironmentaleventsshapehumansocietyandecosystemsfromtheinterdisciplinaryperspectiveaffordedbythefieldofGeography.Theminorwillprovidestudentswiththenecessaryknowledgeandskillstoapplythelatestgeographicscienceconceptsandtechniquesinexploring,planningfor,andrespondingtoenvironmentalevents.Theseskillsareingreatdemandinfieldssuchaspublicpolicy,sustainabledevelopment,disasterpreparedness,mitigation,andadaption,intheprivate,nonprofit,andgovernmentalsectors.
