The real fire in the wall: fireplace inserts are ‘built-in’ heat sources

Linear design and powerful heating technology

When planning your home it’s worth giving some thought at an early stage to where the fireplace will be. Especially if you want to go for one that’s set into the wall, rather than a freestanding stove. In that case, fireplace inserts like the Varia by Spartherm, with an impressive range of more than 40 different model versions, are a good choice.

To start with, the sizes of the individual units offer plenty of scope for versatility, from a narrow 56cm to an overall width of 1.40metres. What’s more, many of the models are available in different heights. And as well as versions that are simply built flat into the wall, there are also others with glass windows on two opposite sides. A ‘double-sided’ fireplace like that is a striking feature in the home and makes a bold room divider – or alternatively, a linking element between two rooms.

The right-angled versions with two windows arranged in an L-shape offer further attractive possibilities for individual room design. And for those looking for something even more unusual, the Spartherm product range also includes U-shaped fireplace inserts that project from the wall in 3D, providing an unrestricted view of the fire from three sides.

An elegant solution: elevating doors for even greater operating convenience

Even with all these features, the fireplaces will blend harmoniously into any interior. The only visible elements are the window panes, which are framed in plain black, and the subtle and tasteful design of the firebox door, which in most Varia models is not hinged but elevating – and also removable. Not only is the effect very elegant, it also facilitates cleaning.

There’s plenty of choice, too, when it comes to the heat output ranges. These vary from 4.9kW to an impressive 19.5kW, and the water-heating models even exceed that value at up to 22.0kW, making them some of the top-performing units on the market. They are not just designed for heating very large living-rooms;instead, some of the heat is stored in the heating system for use throughout the home.
