Pancreatic Cancer UK is a national charity determined to make a difference by providing support and information to those affected and by raising awareness and funding research. Pancreatic Cancer UK provides advocacy for patients and families and lobbies government and policy makers to prioritisepancreatic cancer.

The SportingEvents Intern

We are seeking a SportingEvents Intern to join our busy team and provide support to the Fundraising Officer as well as the wider fundraising team. This role would suit someone

who is looking to gain experience within a busy Fundraising Team. You will show a genuine interest in the aims of the charity and be keen to learn new skills and be involved in all aspects of our work.

The Sporting Events Intern will be managed by the Fundraising Officer and will primarily be working on the 2016Virgin Money London Marathon, with ad hoc work on other spring running events. You will need to be available to work the occasional evening or weekend to attend fundraising events.

Duties

  • To support the Fundraising Team with the management and logistics for key Pancreatic Cancer UK events such as the Virgin London Marathon, this includes pre event preparation, management of the Expo stand, race day reception and cheer points.
  • Research and source promotional materials for supporter goody bags by contacting corporates for gifts in kind.
  • To support participants through regular contact via telephone, email and letter as outlined in the communications plan.
  • To provide general office support when needed such as sending out fundraising packs and materials to participants.
  • To develop a good understanding of the supporter database (Raiser’s Edge), to follow best practice procedures for recording Fundraising data, and to input data accurately and efficiently.
  • To provide support and undertake other administrative activities relating to fundraising and events (e.g. mass mailings) when required.
  • To represent Pancreatic Cancer UK at external events, these may be outside of office hours and at weekends.

Skills and experience

We are looking for someone with the following experience:

  • Competent written skills.
  • First-rate communication skills both on the phone and face to face.
  • IT literate with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
  • Ability to accurately record information and data.
  • Basic internet search skills.
  • Comfortable managing and prioritising your workload, whilst working to deadlines within a dynamic and fast moving environment.

Personal qualities

  • Personable with an excellent telephone manner.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with the confidence and desire to support and motivate fundraisers.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Creative and quick thinking.
  • Able to be sensitive and show empathy for supporters who have a personal connection to the disease.
  • Willing to work the odd weekend and evening at events.

Location and hours

3days a week (9am – 5pm) based at ouroffice in Vauxhall, London.

Training

  • An insight into the charity sector and events fundraising
  • An introduction to Fundraising and Event Management.
  • On the job training using our database, Raisers Edge.
  • A dedicated member of staff to support you through your internship
  • A reference on completing your internship.
