“The Proof of Your Love,” for King & Country

Music video available for free on YouTube, or $1.99 on iTunes.

With the fascination with Zombies at an all time high, and Halloween just around the corner, for King & Country’s new music video, “The Proof of Your Love,” can be a great illustration for a lesson, or a small group discussion time.

Topics: Sin, death, love, testimony, evidence of faith, being like Christ

Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 13:1-7, John 13:34-35, Galatians 3:22, Ephesians 2:1-5

Music video synopsis: The video opens in a post-apocalyptic world with zombie like prisoners being herded by guards. A child stumbles, pulls his gag off and is able to spread a freeing message to another prisoner. As the video progresses, more and more people are set free as those released don’t hesitate to reach out to others. Where the video opened in blacks and greys, it ends in vibrant colors as the people freed step out into the world.

Discussion questions:

Why do you think the band choose to visualize their song in this way? What did you notice? What stood out? What do you think it meant?

1.  Read Ephesians 2:1-3; the video uses the visual metaphor of zombies, literal walking dead, to symbolize spiritual death. What does being dead because of sin look like in actuality? How would you explain this passage? What did/does spiritual death look like in your own life?

2.  Galatians 3:22 calls us prisoners of sin. Is that accurate? How is that possible? What kinds of situations have left you or your friends feeling like a prisoner to sin? What does it feel like?

3.  In the music video, as the prisoners become alive, their first impulse is to save the other prisoners. Is this normal? In actuality, would we be more surprised by the story of a prisoner jumping at the chance for escape, or the story of a prisoner staying to save others? Why?

4.  Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7. Why is love so important? What does it communicate? In the passage it lists of examples of good things but claims without love they are meaningless – how is that true?

5.  John 13:34-35 includes the line, “your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” How are we the proof of God’s love? What are practical ways you can be the proof of His love this week – at school, sports, home, work?
