ASSIGNED PARKING SPACES

There are a handful of assigned parking spaces that are reserved for staff as they may be arriving during the day as they work at other school sites or attend meetings at the district office. We need to keep these parking spaces available for the employees as they need to park and report to work with our students quickly. We appreciate your support in advance in keeping these spaces available to staff.

CROCE KINGDOM

You may be surprised to know that there is a kingdom right here on our campus! It is Croce Kingdom in Rm. 39. The students named it, designed the flag, and created the currency! They get paid for jobs and for being at school. Attendance is very important! However, they rent their desks at the rate of 5 bills a day and are fined for being tardy. Forms are filled out weekly to keep track of finances and given to the paymasters. They check the totals and pass the forms on to our bankers. The bankers pay out the money earned from the “cash” box. If there’s any trouble, we can call on one of our two policemen, (or woman.)

Earning money pays off when we have Selling Day! We had our first one in November. The planning Commissioners organized the “stores,” and we were all set up just before lunch. After lunch we had an Opening Ceremony. Our mayor, Katie Mathers, said a few words to rousing applause from the citizens and our assembled guests, and then we cut the ribbon across the door to officially open Selling Day!

The students used amazing creativity in making their products, and their stores were closed when they went off to buy. We had business signs, business cards, open and closed signs, all very official! The buying made earning money all worthwhile! They have been planning for the next Selling Day in January.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom is totally enjoying fourth grade! We get to learn the coolest stuff and have fun doing it!

MAYOR OF CROCE KINGDOM

The citizens of Croce Kingdom, the mini society in Mrs. Godfrey’s 4th grade class, recently participated in a selling day that was held on November 5, 2009. Each citizen created a business and a product to sell. We purchased the items with Croce Kingdom bucks, but before you could sell you had to buy a business license from the planning commissioners. Everybody came up with really clever ideas. Selling day was a great success. We are all looking forward to the next selling day!
