- DRESS CODE
The platform is the most visible place in the church. As leaders on the platform, the things we wear need to be considered very closely. It’s important to remember that modesty is the key. We want our clothes to represent who we are, but also who we are in Christ.
- Men’s Clothing Guidelines
- General (all services)
- Modesty and style are important so we give focus on the worshipping, not us, and still come across as relevant to our culture and the people we are leading. Read up on modern styles and balance them with classic pieces.
- If you are ever unsure about an item, bring it and a member of our leadership can tell you if it can work for the next time.
- Before you finalize an outfit for service, be sure to do a final worship check. Raise your arms as high as you can and swing them in all directions. Look in the mirror and check yourself from all angles. Make sure that you are not revealing anything inappropriate. Kneel down and check to see if the back of your pants comes too low or uncovers anything. Also, if you lean forward, see if your shirt reveals anything.
- Weekend & Special Events
- Generally, attire is dressy. We want to wear our best and give a good representation. We want to be one step dressier than the congregation. Modesty and style are important so we give focus on the worshipping, not us, and still come across as relevant to our culture.
- We list out our color palette for these services so that the platform has a complimentary look. Please see Color and Dress Information below. More detailed information on colors can also be found on the worship calendar. Keep your outfit colors within this list only.

- Lady’s Clothing Guidelines
- General (all services)
- Modesty and style are important so we give focus on the worshipping, not us, and still come across as relevant to our culture and the people we are leading. Read up on modern styles and balance them with classic pieces.
- If you are ever unsure about an item, bring it and a female worship leader can tell you if it can work for next time.
- Before you finalize an outfit for service, be sure to do a final worship check.
- Raise your arms as high as you can and swing them in all directions. Look in the mirror and check yourself from all angles. Make sure that you are not revealing anything inappropriate. Jump up and down. If there is any movement in the chest area, cover yourself with a jacket that will hide the movement or change your shirt. Exercise bras and some supportive tank tops also help in this area.
- Kneel down and check to see if the back of your pants comes too low or uncovers anything. Also, if you lean forward, see if your shirt reveals anything.

- Specifics for Women
- Top Half
- Neckline – Show no cleavage. Please be very conscientious about this. The more you have, the more modest the neckline should be. That doesn’t mean everyone needs to wear a turtleneck; it’s just the first place that can be a distraction in worship.
- Test – your neckline should be no more than the span of 4-finger width from your collarbone.
- Bras should be inconspicuous and serve you well. Make sure that it cannot be seen under any circumstances. Be sure that the thickness of your bra protects for all room temperatures.
- Be careful not to buy shirts and/or jackets that bring focus to the chest. No shirts that are tight and tightly cup under the chest.
- If wearing a shirt without a jacket, be sure that is cut in a modest way.
- No sleeveless tops. The sleeve length should be appropriate for your arms, keeping in mind that all arms are different. We suggest the length to be half-way to your elbow or lower. If you shake your arms and there is a lot of movement, adjust your sleeve length to closer to your elbow.
- No t-shirts unless they are dressy and under a jacket.
- Waistline – No skin around the midriff.
- Test – raise your arms straight up, you should have several inches of shirt past your pants. If ever in doubt, wear a tank top underneath your top to make sure that when you jump, there isn’t a lot of movement.
- Make sure that your top is not see-through. If it’s the style, make sure that the under shirt still meets the guidelines and is not tan in color (that can seem like you aren’t wearing anything underneath, even if you are).
- Bottom Half
- Skirts should come to mid-knee or lower.
- Skirts must not be see-through. Wear a slip or pants underneath if there’s a chance it can show light through.
- No tight pants.
- No pants that are tight all the way to the ankle.
- No pants that cup around your bottom or bring focus to your bottom.
- No pants that focus on your front. Some pants are too tight in this area or have weird stitching or coloring that draws the eye there.
- No gaucho or cropped pants of any kind.
- Other
- Dresses should come to mid-knee or below.
- Make sure that the dress is not see-through with light shining through. If any chance or doubt, wear pants underneath.
- Shoes should be appropriate to the outfit. Make sure that you are able to move freely in worship. We suggest breaking in heels before a weekend service.
- Keep jewelry simple. Make sure that with movement, the pieces don’t cause unnecessary noise or weird movement.
- Weekday Services – Special Considerations
- Generally, attire is more casual depending on the service (i.e. Youth can look more “youthy”).
- Same rules as weekend services apply above with the following exceptions:
- Top Half – Sleeve length can be higher, make sure that you are sensitive to your body type. Make sure it’s modest. T-shirts are ok. Make sure that the wording and design placement are ok and that the shirt isn’t too tight.
- Bottom Half – Jeans are ok. Make sure they aren’t too tight. Cropped pants are ok. Make sure they are lower than the knee.
- Color and Dress Information - Weekend/Conference/Special Services Colors
- Many factors have been involved with determining what the selection of colors will be such as:
- Each color needs to coordinate with all other color possibilities and, at the same time, look okay if only one person is wearing a particular color.
- All colors need to look nice under stage lighting, which changes throughout a worship set and periodically alters colors to appear darker or brighter than they truly are.
- All colors need to look nice and keep a modest appearance when viewed close-up or far from the platform.
- Please do not wear pinstripes or polka dots that are small and in different colors (tone-on-tone is usually okay such as black on black stripes). These patterns cause a moiré pattern on many screens, especially television.
- Standard Weekend Colors
- Medium Blue, Mediterranean Blue, Royal Blue, French Blue and Navy Blue.
- Light Purple, Medium Purple, Dark Purple, Lilac, Lavender, Periwinkle and Violet.
- Wine and Burgundy (these colors should be deeper, richer colors or muted tones of these colors would also work. NO bright true reds like bright happy Christmas reds –this color would give a glow on camera.)
- Olive Greens and Army Greens.
- Medium Khaki, Dark Khaki, Camel and Tan.
- Light, Medium and Dark Browns.
- Medium Gray, Dark Gray and Silver.
- Black.
- Colors Which Can Be Used Minimally - The following colors may be worn on the bottom portion of an outfit or under a vest or jacket. They may also be a part of a pattern in an article of clothing that wouldn’t need to be covered if the other colors in the pattern are from the Standard Weekend list above. For example: A guy may wear a striped shirt made up of Light Blue (minimal color), Navy Blue and Purple stripes and would most likely not need a jacket or vest over it.
- Light Blue
- Light Gray
- Light Khaki
- Taupe
- Light Pink (nothing that would appear to be flesh on stage especially from far away).
Medium and Darker Pinks (all pinks MUST be darker or muted. NO bright pinks or pinks that even come close to a fluorescent or “pop” look. Bright pinks, like bright reds, can give a glow on camera and cause a person’s coloring to look sickly).
