Lesson Title: / Ethos, Pathos, and Logos – Create Your Own “Old Major” Speech (Honors 9)

II. The Lesson Itself

Learning activities (step-by-step): / 1) Provide examples of EPL – 10 mins
2) Discuss Old Major’s speech… What is the purpose of his final speech and how does he use EPL? – 5 mins
3) Students write their own speech (like Old Major) in which they impart the knowledge they have gained in their life and what needs to be done to change the world and rid it of injustice (using EPL!) – 25 mins
4) Exit ticket: Share your speech with a partner and then turn it in – 10 mins
Checking for understanding:
(formative assessment) / - Randomly calling on students to identify EPL in Old Major’s speech as well as to discuss the purpose and circumstances of his speech
- Students’ creation of their own EPL “Old Major” speech
