This summer, The Peninsula Shanghai introduces two exceptional new Peninsula Academy experiences, a Shanghai BySidecar City Tour andThe Art of Glass and Flowers, a combined glass making and flower arranging masterclass. These thrilling additions to The Peninsula Academy programmeenable guests to experience China’s most vibrant city from engaging new perspectives.

The Peninsula Academy is a unique concept to The Peninsula Hotels. It provides guests with a carefully curated selection of personalised classes, tours and activities designed from a local perspective to highlight key aspects of each location’s culture, heritage, lifestyle, cuisine and arts. Following its launch at The Peninsula Hong Kong in 1997, The Peninsula Academy has expanded to all of the Peninsula hotels worldwide, and is recognisedas one of the world’s most innovative and experiential guest-activity programmes.

Shanghai By Sidecar City Tour.Shanghai is an exciting metropolis with a complex history and a beguiling combination ofclassic and modern architecture. Riding the streets in a motorbike sidecar provides a remarkable visual perspective. Guests will enjoy an expertly narrated sidecar tour by award-winning local company Shanghai Insiders and learn the historic secrets of the Paris of the Orient. The tour begins by visiting the heritage Astor House Hotel and The Swatch Art Peace Hotel on The Bund, both of which were once owned by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited. Guests will also cruise through the destinations according to their interests and preferences such as traveling in the enchanting former French Concession, the wartime Jewish ghetto, the Old City and along the famous Bund while the motorbike-riding guide explains the background stories of the historic landmarks, famous streets and iconic buildings en route. In addition, a Peninsula Edition 1930s Map will bring guests back to different former foreign concessions in the old days and will be served as a memorable gift of the tour. Guests will also enjoy a specially made Peninsula Picnic Box at their preferable location during a 4-hour sidecar tour.

A 2-hour Shanghai By Sidecar City Tour is priced at RMB 3,900* per sidecar (maximum two persons per sidecar). A 4-hour Shanghai By Sidecar City Tour is priced at RMB 5,380* per sidecar (maximum two persons per sidecar).

The Art of Glass and Flowers.This unique programmeenables guests to enjoy a private glass vase making tutorial by a glass art master at the Shanghai Museum of Glass, followed by a one-hour flower arranging classconducted by The Peninsula Shanghai’s own professional florist. Guests will betransported from the hotel by Rolls-Royce to the Shanghai Museum of Glass, a contemporary concept museum housed in a former glass factory that showcases the history of glass making, art and design in China, Asia and worldwide.During the personal class, guests will join a glass art master to create a special glass vase. Back at the hotel, a creative flower arranging class will enable guests to create an eye-catching floral presentation to fill their own glass vase.

The Art of Glass and Flowers class is priced at RMB 3,000* per person, RMB 1,000* per additional person with a maximum of three persons per class.
