THE PENINSULA PARIS CELEBRATES JAPANESE SPRING

AND ITS CHERRY BLOSSOMS

From 17 March to 7 April, The Peninsula Paris will adorn itself in the colours of Japan to celebrate the arrival of spring and its cherry blossoms, in honour of the 10th anniversary of the group’s Japanese hotel.

Spring is the most eagerly awaited season in Japan. From the end of March to the beginning of April, all eyes turn to the nation’s cherry trees as their blossoms unfurl, heralding the arrival of spring.

To mark the 10thanniversary of The Peninsula Tokyo, its Parisian cousin located at 19 avenue Kléber will be celebrating all things Japanese for three weeks. Decorated with these most poetic trees, the hotel’s public spaces and Le Lobby restaurant will offer Parisians and travellers from around the world the chance to discover Japanese customs and specialities at the very heart of the City of Light.

To enable guests to immerse themselves in Japanese culture, Le Lobby will include in its Menu du Marché a Japanese dish created by the hotel’s Executive Chef and Best Craftsman of France, Christophe Raoux. For its Afternoon Tea, Pastry Chef Hayato Yamadafrom The Peninsula Tokyo will take up residence in Paris, promising an exotic trip through the flavours and aromas of Japan and taking advantage of his presence in the French capital to present his signature dessert, the mango pudding, which will be available on the menu throughout the festivities. Not be left out, brunch – that unmissable Sunday ritual – is offering a special sushi event in which iconic dishes will be prepared before the hungry gaze of customers.

An exhibition of kimonos, created and specially selected by Japanese fashion designer Junko Koshino, will complete Le Lobby’s décor. Furthermore, members of the restaurant’s staff will be dressed in creations from this famous Japanese fashion house.

Add to this origami workshops for children, Japanese background music and sublime kabuki (traditional Japanese theatre) performances and explanation by renowned actor SennosukeKataoka, who will be there to entertain lovers of new discoveries and Asian culture alike, and the tableau is complete!

A selection of bento boxes will be available in the Bar Kléber, a hushed venue sheltered by period gilding and woodwork and offering a wide range of saké, cocktails and Japanese teas as an accompaniment.

The Peninsula Spa will be unveiling a treatment based on cherry blossoms, which are renowned for their multiple virtues and which promise to restore radiance and softness to the skin. For the ultimate in beauty therapy, green tea ice cubes will be used as a decongestant mask.

Finally, in collaboration with the Musée National des Arts Asiatiques–Guimet, The Peninsula Paris will be offering privileged access to the Kimono – Au bonheur des dames exhibition, for all those passionate about fashion and the land of the rising sun.
