The Okotoks Oilers Midget AA Black team and the Okotoks Oilers Athletic Association are pleased towelcome you to the 2016-17 Midget AA Major Provincial Hockey Championships!

Congratulations on your league championship, we look forward to an exciting provincial tournament, and hosting you here in Okotoks. Our organizing committee has work extremely hard to make this a memorable event and we hope that you fully enjoy your tournament experience!

We have numerous volunteers helping us out at this event, but for assistance at any time during the tournament, please visit the Tournament Office, main floor Pason Arena,Community Room. For immediate assistance you can contact Tournament Chair – Shawn Bailer at 403-809-2338.

TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

We respectfully ask that you read this information very carefully, with the short turn around between the champions being announced and the actual event there are a number of key deadlines we will need you to meet prior to the event. The majority of this information will need to be submitted by end of day Tuesday March 21 so that we can action it. A checklist is provided at the end of this document.

OPENING CEREMONIES BANQUET

The host committee has chosen to provide an Opening Ceremonies Banquet versus the traditional on ice Opening Ceremonies. As per Hockey Alberta Guidelines at these events the host committee is required to cover the cost of coach/player meals (up to 25 per team). Based on this commitment the Opening Ceremonies Banquet is ‘Mandatory’ for all teams to attend. Details are as follows:

  • Date: Thursday March 30th
  • Time: 7:00 PM – immediately following Game #3
  • Location – Pason Community Center (in building adjacent to Pason Arena)
  • Guest Speaker – Glen Gulutzan – Head Coach Calgary Flames
  • MC – Rob Kerr – Sportsnet Fan 960 Radio
  • Tickets will be in your registration package (25 per team)
  • Dress Code is up to the individual team

NOTE: Additional tickets may be purchased for teams in excess of 25 members, and for any parents that wish to attend this event. Details are as follows:

  • Additional Ticket Cost are $25/each
  • Additional Tickets must be confirmed on Tuesday March 21
  • Additional Tickets must be paid for at Coach/Manager Meeting on Thursday AM
  • Extra Tickets are limited, we will do our best to meet each teams needs

Team Requirements for Opening Ceremonies Banquet

The host committee wanted to make this evening fun and interactive for each team, therefore we ask that each team provide the following;

  • 20 to 30 photos ( to be shown while your team is introduced)
  • Team song that will be played when your team is announced
  • 1 player to speak about your team’s season and the road to the provincials (1-2 mins. Max)
  • This information is required by Friday March 24

SCHEDULE

ADMISSION

As most of you are aware the host committee must bear the full cost of the event when they choose to host a provincial event. Much of the cost recovery comes through sponsorship and donations but Hockey Alberta permits the host committee to charge the teams a ‘Community Fee’ of up to $700 or to charge admission at the door. The Okotoks host committee has chosen to charge admission at the door. We kindly ask that you communicate this to your parent community so they are not surprised when they arrive

  • Prices are as follows:
  • Kids 12 and under free
  • Students and Seniors $5/day or $15 for tournament pass
  • Adults $10/day and $25 for tournament pass
  • Program $5 each
  • NOTE: Special Advance Purchase Admission Deal – if a team wants to advance purchase tournament passes as a group prior to the commencement of the event, the host committee will offer a special deal as follows:
  • Advanced Purchased - Tournament Passes $15
  • #’s must be communicated by end of day Friday March 24
  • Passes will be available at Coach/Manager meeting
  • Payment must be made at Coach/Manager meeting
  • This price is not available after the Coach/Manager meeting concludes, March 30, 9:30 AM

TOURNAMENT RULES

  • Mandatory Coach/Manager meeting, to be held 8:30am, Thursday March 30th, Tournament Office at the Community Room, main floor Pason Centennial Arena
  • The Provincials will be played under the official Hockey Canadarules, with the exception of Hockey Alberta regulations and/or rules adopted by Hockey Alberta. See tournament rules posted on the tournament website
  • Please ensure that an injury report is completed and filed with the Host Committee for every athleteexperiencing an injury during the tournament. Hockey Canada form is available on the website

PLAYER AWARDS

  • A ‘Most Valuable Player’ will be selected from each team after every game. This award will be selected by Junior Team Officials in attendance. Please haveyour team line up on the blue line for the announcement of the player and presentation of the award.

TEAM SERVICES

  • Gatorade/Powerade and fruit will be made available to teams
  • Each team will have an ambassador to assist them during the tournament
  • Snacks will be provided and placed in team dressing rooms prior to games

EMERGENCY SERVICES

  • Please refer to the attached Emergency Action Plan. Please ensure that your team trainer is provided this information and familiarizes him/herself with the informationto ensure that all procedures are clear and understood.

ACCOMODATION

Best Western Plus Okotoks Inn and Suites is the host hotel for the ‘TEAMS’ at the 2017 Midget AA Provincial Championships. Rooms have been blocked at this hotel for each of the travelling teams. Rooms are blocked as follows:

  • 14 Rooms - SCAHL Team
  • 14 Rooms – NAHL (North) Team
  • 14 Rooms – Edmonton Team
  • 0 Rooms – Calgary Team (it was assumed, this team would be staying at home, if we need to make other arrangements this can be done)
  • Booking Deadline is Tuesday March 21st, after this the rooms will be released
