Vol. 86 JANUARY, 2014 No. 01
Happy New Year to one and all! With every new year, we make resolutions to better ourselves. Some of us vow to take better care of ourselves by eating better, exercising, and going to the doctors regularly. Some of us vow to work harder and be more helpful to others. Some of us just vow to smile more. Whatever your resolution is for 2014, I hope that St. Peter is on your list of resolutions for helping to make this year prosperous in spiritual growth and stewardship.
The Lord shows us his presence and continues to bless us year after year. One of the ways we see God’s blessing is through the volunteers he brings to the Board of Directors. These people dedicate their time and energy to insure that your church is up and running in accordance with the Word of God and in the faith and practices of our congregation and of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Their goal is to lead the congregation in accordance with our mission statement.
This year’s Board of Directors consist of:
President – Carol Bostwick Vice President – Nancy Hammond
Secretary – Jean Jansen Treasurer – Lillian Tomecek
Director of Finance – Angela Carpenter Director of Youth – Mary Flohr
Director of Social Concerns – Robin Kisselstein Director of Education – Tracy Michaud
Director of Evangelism – Nancy Murphy Director of Fellowship – Jan Jones
Director of Worship – Lauren Carpenter Director of Stewardship – Steven Carpenter
Director of Property – Vacant
Cont’d
Within all of these directorships are many committees that are in great need of your support. It is my hope that when a request for volunteers or services comes from your Board members that you willingly and joyfully step up to help just as your 2014 Board members have.
As with the coming of new Board members, there is going of valued past 2013 Board members. They are: Vice President – Mary Clark, Director of Fellowship – Beverly Flohr, Director of Education – Phyllis Schmitt. The Board of Directors would like to thank Mary, Beverly and Phyllis for their time and service to the congregation. They all did a great job while serving on the board. The best part about these three gals is that they will continue to serve the Lord by working with the new Board and congregation members in any way that they can.
Peace and love to all.
Carol Bostwick
President – Board of Directors

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran, Eastpoint, Maryland, receives $5,000 “Matthew 25: Neighbors in Need” Grant
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation grant aids efforts to support physical, emotional and spiritual needs in community
MINNEAPOLIS (December 16, 2013) – St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eastpoint, Baltimore County, Maryland, recently received a $5,000 “Lutheran Community Matthew 25: Neighbors in Need” grant from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation. The funding was awarded to the congregation based on its effectiveness in addressing physical, emotional and /or spiritual needs in the local community such as food, clothing, shelter, fellowship, and care for the sick based on Jesus’ words in Matthew 25: 35-36.
St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran has also elected to participate in a complementary two-to-one challenge grant program sponsored by the Foundation. For every dollar raised by the congregation from donors by Mar. 31, 2014, the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation will provide an additional 50 cents—up to $5,000—in support of the organization’s ministry.
“We are delighted to assist St. Peter Congregation through this grant, said Richard Kleven, vice president of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation. “We trust that this support will strengthen St. Peter Congregational outreach/ministry to those it serves.”
Our congregation has been involved in serving God and the community for over 100 years and this grant will help to us continue our work, stated Lillian Tomecek, Treasurer of the Congregation and President of the East Baltimore County Chapter 30950 of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
As our mission statement says, “We are Blessed to be a Blessing.” We thank God and the Foundation for this grant to continue our work.
