Effects of Bullying

Bullying can have long-term impacts on mental health, substance use, violence, criminal convictions, and suicidal ideation.

Kids who are bullied are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, increased feelings of sadness and loneliness, decreased academic achievement, changes in sleep and eating patterns, and loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy.

Parents and caregivers can take an active role in preventing bullying and building resilience in their children.

Slide 2

Building Resilience

Research shows that parents and caregivers who spend at least 15 minutes a day talking with their children can build the foundation for a strong relationship and help prevent bullying.

This time helps promote a healthy home climate, boost children’s confidence, and build effective strategies for facing bullying—whether children are being bullied, engaging in bullying, or witnessing bullying.
