WELCOME BACK!

It is a pleasure to write my first newsletter of the new academic year. I hope you all had an enjoyable summer. We have now had our first full week back on campus and the children have settled extremely well.

We welcome our new starters in Nursery and Reception and the parents, grandparents and carers who are new to our school community. If you see anyone looking lost or unsure of their surroundings, please be sure to point them in the right direction or lend them a helping hand.

Welcome also to our new staff.

Baby and wedding news!

Congratulations to Miss Fairfax, Mrs Duncan and Miss Hyde who have all become mums recently.

Miss Fairfax gave birth to Jacob on July 26th.

Mrs Duncan welcomed Thomas on August 3rd.

Miss Hyde had a healthy little boy too on Wednesday September 2nd – no name yet!

Miss Edwards leaves us on Friday to start her maternity leave too – we wish her well for her new delivery.

Congratulations also to Miss Ward who became Mrs Kelly in the holidays, when she married Michael.

EVENTS THIS TERM

As you can see we have shared lots of dates with you regarding events in the next term. More details will be sent out closer to the time of each event, but if you would like to know more please contact us by email.

We are also running many after school clubs this half term and next. More details will follow.

SOME SAFETY REMINDERS

  • Please could parents make sure any children who are coming into school late, come into the building by the main entrance. Our doors close at 8.55am and all children should be on site by then. For the safety of your child we need to record that they are on site as soon as they arrive.
  • If your child is absent for any reason please contact the school office as soon as possible. (Tel: 844323), then send in a note for their teacher on the day they return to school.
  • When your child needs to bring any money to school – dinner money(KS2), trip money etc, it must be in an envelope with your child’s name, class and reason for money written on it.
  • Children are not allowed to have mobile phones in school unless they are in Year 6, or walk home alone and need it to contact parents. If this is the case please let the class teacher know and tell your child to give the phone to the teacher for safe keeping during the day.
  • Unless your child is coming to our breakfast club we do not expect them on site until 8:45am.The school day actually starts at 8.55am,but we open the doors earlier to ease congestion.
  • If your child would like to bring in a bottle of water to drink during the day, please label the bottle clearly.
  • Children should not wear jewellery. If they have their ears pierced they can only wear small studs and must be able to remove these for PE lessons or outdoor learning.
  • We ask that only children in Years 5 and 6 go home from school without an adult at 3pm. However we ask that you write a letter to their teacher giving permission for them to do this. This is at your own discretion and responsibility.

ACCESS TO CAMPUS

Please could I ask you to be vigilant about how your child comes into school.

We have had a number of children coming through the staff car park or the Centre drop off car park. These are both very busy places at the start and the end of the day and learners should not be going through them. We have also had some learners, who were not supervised, cycling through the car parks.

Please could you also be vigilant if you are driving into our Primary drop off. There is a speed limit of 5 mph.

We have had further concerns raised about the speed of cars and the double parking on Thorntree Gardens. Please drive safely at all times in the vicinity of the school.

For those parents walking along Thorntree Gardens we have opened the pedestrian access through The Robert Stephenson Campus to allow a safer route onto our campus.

Children are encouraged to come to school on their bikes or scooters, but we ask that they get off them and push them once they are in the school grounds, to prevent any accidents.

CONTACT DETAILS

This week we have tried to contact a number of parents and have found that their contact details are out of date. For the care and safety of your children PLEASE make sure, if you change your home or mobile number, you let us know immediately.

We are also sending out a new SV5 form so we can update our records. Please complete this and return it to the campus as soon as possible.

....AND FINALLY!

Congratulations to Rebecca Linney who won our 100% attendance challenge last year, winning an iPad donated by Vision Education.

Look out for details of this year’s attendance rewards!
