The National Food Laboratory is recruiting for a Chemist II. The Chemist II independently performs complex non-routine analyses, which result in total customer and supervisor satisfaction. Please note, relocation will not be considered for this position.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES, AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform complex non routine analyses and procedures by HPLC, GC,LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS/MS
Perform complex routine analyses and procedures by HPLC, GC,LC/MS/MS and/or GC/MS/MS
Prepare samples and perform complex extractions when necessary
Perform routine analyses and procedures when necessary
Produce accurate, traceable, and defendable results on time and under ISO 17025 and GLP conditions, if necessary.
Maintain instruments and equipment so that they are continuously in good working order
Maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment
Follow appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), analytical methods, and protocols
Supervise and train technicians and chemists as directed by supervisor
Travel as required
Work as a team with all staff to accomplish position and business objectives
ISO 17025 Management System Authorities and Responsibilities
Has the responsibility and authority to identify departures from the management system or from the procedures for performing tests, and to initiate actions to prevent or minimize such departures.
Has the responsibility and authority to identify and halt non-conforming work in their scope of work
Has the authority to operate instruments, equipment and perform tests when documented as qualified in training records.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
BS Chemistry with 2 - 4 years experience or MS Chemistry (Food Science), or a combination of education, experience in LC/MS/MS analysis of pesticide residues and experience indicating an ability to successfully perform the primary accountabilities of the position.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: ISO 17025 and GLP standards; SOPs, and protocols.
Ability to: Perform complex analyses and procedures, maintain and improve professional competency, maintain a safe and orderly work environment, maintain laboratory and experimental records, review SOPs and analytical methods, operate personal computer, laboratory instruments and equipment.
Required Licenses or certificates:
Valid Drivers License and Proof of Insurance
