Students Recognized for Outstanding Energy Projects

Washington, D.C. -- From kids teaching kids about energy sources at (insert school) in (City, State) to students facilitating energy education workshops– teachers and students have been busy educating their peers, teachers and community leaders about energy this year!
Schools involved in the energy education programs of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project submit digital presentations and videos of their classroom and public education programs to NEED’s headquarters each April. Schools from across the country sent their energy projects to the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project to be reviewed. The results are in, and will be announced at the 36th Annual National Recognition Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Monday, June 27, 2016.
The energy projects are planned and implemented by students for students to educate their peers and communities about energy -- the science, the sources, the uses, and the issues. The work of these students and teachers is of particular importance in a time of growing energy challenges and opportunities.

The NEED Project is a nonprofit organization with programs in all 50 states, the U.S. territories and several other nations. NEED has developed innovative materials and implemented programs that not only teach about energy, but also develop leadership and critical thinking skills. NEED’s Kids Teaching Kids philosophy encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning and that of others. NEED is sponsored by both renewable and nonrenewable energy companies, federal, state and local agencies, energy consumers and by national and state energy and education associations.
The National Awards Review Panel, composed of leaders from the energy, education, and government sectors, met to review more than 60 projects that had previously been judged Best in State.
