B Objectives

1. What is the main purpose for this course?
The purpose of the Comprehensive Patient Management (CPM) course is to integrate the knowledge in multiple dimensions and to teach the students in what way to manage their patients and practices to ensure an achievable dental practice with minimal risk. In this course the students will be exposed to strategies on how to carry out risk assessment, treatment planning and patient management. The course will help the students in collecting, analyzing and critically evaluating information, thereby, enhancing both their clinical and research skills.
2. Briefly describe any plans for developing and improving the course that are being implemented. (e.g. increased use of IT or web based reference material, changes in content as a result of new research in the field)
This course features an intensive clinical emphasis with lectures, seminars, and patient care experiences which will further develop the student’s expertise in the arena of comprehensive patient care.
A cluster teaching method has been introduced in this course; in the theoretical part of this course, teachers from different dental specialties present the scenarios of clinical cases and conduct discussions and debates about the same, emphasizing on proper history recording, tracking the minute clinical details, using different suitably available diagnostic aids/investigations and further the comprehensive treatment planning.
Additionally, suitable topic oriented videos are being played to make the discussions interesting wherever possible. Healthy debates are also conducted among the students which facilitate the student in knowledge integration and will improve their clinical reasoning skills.
